Hello all,

From my experience with Porsche and other restorations, I have learned that one often needs to source specific items from different outfits as opposed to a one stop shop. I see that World Upholstery offers all the above and they seem to be the only outfit making reproduction door panels. Coupe King has a headliner that they claim is the most "accurate". Is there a consensus as to the best vendor for each of the following? Was the OEM carpet "German loop"? Any added insight would be greatly appreciated.

A. Carpet kits, B. Headliner, C. Door panels, D. Seatbelts.

OEM carpet is German loop, most of these available now are Mercedes colors so close but not perfect, same with square weave which is Porsche and Mercedes. World has the Chevron basket weave for the doors but I don’t know if they put on their panels. Buy good vinyl, their basket weave which you would dye and anyone can sew them up. Al sells replacement seatbelts, alias here is @bluedevils. If you have the Autoflug receiver you are golden!

Thanks Chris,

I considered using square weave as I am familiar with the material. In your opinion is that incongruous for an E9?

No, I’ve seen square weave in a coupe, it is very durable and looks very nice. @OCCoupe used it in his Nachtblau coupe. I just saw World’s door cards with embossing, very nice.

I'm going to use German square weave from World. A number of years ago we bought an old Singer industrial sewing machine and will make our own set (sew the binding) up using the old ones as a template. Many years ago we did made a set using the German loop carpet (again from World) and just don the the look and feel as compared to the square weave. Yes its not original, but a personal choice.

The sewing machine has been quite a welcome addition to the shop as we have already have sewed several interiors including our 2800cs. While the results may not be on par with say, Heritage, we have been satisfied with the results. With patience and more patience and some good instruction (thanks that I had a wife who did a lot of sewing), results can be pretty good and can save a ton of money.

Here is the World color we are using for carpet (light blue 1005) for the blue interior.

Thanks
