I am finding construction of the center console a challenge. I have new, unblemished side panels, no holes for guidence. Based on forum images, I am confused as to the orientation of these brackets, are they installed up or down? Also, the second image, is this even OEM? As mentioned before, my console was non existent so I am starting from scratch and want to minimize screws etc for cosmetics.

Markos, check out Keshav's photos here and see my confusion. https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/photo-needed.35747/

He has the flares down, you have them up. The wood panel rests on these so having them down makes sense....your right bracket in the back, is that a spacer so the wood panel rests on it rather than slips down around it? If so, that would argue for the vertical flares to face down, no?

I think that hump on the rear bracket is to clear the AC evaporator drain plug. Think of it this way, if the bracket is indeed used to cover the drain hole, then there won't be a screw hole in the center. So the bracket with two holes goes over the drain plug, and that bracket mounts where the hump goes over it. Then bracket with one hole sits flush against the tunnel, with the hump facing down. The photo by keshav is a repop from cswerke. He may have mounted the brackets wrong when staging the photo.

With all of that said, as you can see from the square steel washer, mine has been tinkered with in the past. Likely due to the awesome 10 speaker 80’s stereo that I removed. Mine could be wrong also, but it is mounted and secure in the vehicle. To mount it incorrectly would mean that the installer would need to drill new holes in the tunnel.

You need one more set of photos.

I understand what you are saying but I have no AC and my brackets have no hump. If I mount the back bracket with the sides facing down, the little angle they have fits nicely into the angle the vinyl sides have.

I basically have to do a dry run and see what's what .

What of that unpainted bracket in my OP, is that OEM? Perhaps the radio mounting plate rests on that since the radio goes below the temp controls and below that is just a space. Andrew sent me photos of the space below which were helpful.

To clarify, my car doesn’t have AC either, but it does have the drain hole and plug.

The ratio mount is a stand-alone kit. I can dig up the instructions.

Any help with this bracket appreciated. Orientation and function? My sense is that it holds the radio plate in place but I really have no idea. I have reviewed multiple forum images and am still left with these questions. Tx

I don't think it is a radio bracket. That bracket is much more involved. More of a tray than a bracket. I can measure the width of my center console at the tunnel to confirm. Also, if you can provide the width of the bracket I can tell you where it would fit snugly on the console (which grows in width as you travel vertically).

Sorry, I was not clear. I have the mounting plate, just wondering if this went in the back of the tunnel and the mounting plate rested on it while the front of the mounting plate is held by one screw on each side. If I use this bracket, I can fix it from the inside and thus, eliminate 2 holes/screws that show along the center console, ie the mounting plate has 4 screws to hold it in place. I could use the two in front and not bother with the two in back if I used this bracket. I have seen this bracket in another post unrelated, so fairly sure it is OEM..
