Chassis Welding

In the process of prep work for seam welding the rear bulkhead, I have to decide what to do with the damage done to the wheel arches (both sides) when the sunroof was added and they had to run cables and wires to the trunk mounted motor.

I can have this done in pieces but if anyone has about 10" of the arch lying around I can give it a good home and save some time and money. Probably doesn't matter which side it comes from.

So how is the sunroof operated now?
Just my opinion, unless this will be a Concours restoration why not just weld in a small structural piece and cover it back up?
If you're wearing a $500.00 suit, no one will know or care if you are wearing underwear.
If it's a $1000.00 suit, they are gonna want to know exactly what brand and size.

I'll probably use three strips of metal to close the holes - I'm more interested in improving the chassis stiffness and like you say it won't be seen. Using a piece of factory arch just seems easier but not much of it around here.

Switch and gearbox is in the typical location in front of the mirror and everything operates as per factory but the motor is in the back with a really long worm drive cable. There is a 15mm spindle on the motor unit I can put a ratchet drive on to manually open and close the sunroof if the motor craps out.

Still considering the sunroof delete and since it was an add on in the 80's - that would be returning it to original (which would be a first for me).
