Clutch Master part needed

Hi guys - in a nutshell:
- the ring that connects to the clutch pedal at the end of my clutch master broke off (see red circle in picture)
- apparently not an easy to get part and I don't necessarily want to buy a new clutch master just for that
- bought a rebuild clutch master from 002 Salvage in Hayward but it ain't the same one (see picture). My bad - didn't verify that it is, just asked for 74 e9 clutch master.

My options are:
- find the rod with the ring somewhere
- buy a new or correct rebuilt master and either install or just cannibalize it for the rod with ring
- have a machine shop make me another rod with ring

This is where y'all come in: anyone have a rod with ring laying around? PM me please. Anyone know where I can find this part or have it made fast and reasonable? PM me please.

My guy (Harold) spoke to a few machine shops and they charge around $200 to make one. Is this reasonable? And it takes a week. Not reasonable - but I guess they have other projects. Thanks for your help - this is currently my daily commuter and I need it up and running soon.

Andy

The only clutch master available is the e21 version, fits fine but at a slight angle. Also need tap the flange on firewall flat but still easy to do

Yea, those things are made out of a very brittle material (sintered iron?). Step on your clutch pedal a bit sideways, and "snap".

When mine failed, my mechanic fabricated a new part by welding up some junk he had laying around the shop. He said "that should hold until you can buy a new one". I said "your part is 100 times better than what those clowns in Bavaria cobbled up - let's just leave it in there". That was several years ago - the improvised part is still functioning.

Thanks for the feedback!

Guys - thanks for the quick replies.

Harold shopped it around with a few welders and they all said they couldn't do it because of the type of metal. I'll may try that again though.

I'll call Tomkinson and order the e12 part.

Thanks y'all - will keep you posted if that did the trick.

Happy Easter.

Right - you can't weld the original part back together - it's made out of the same material that they use to make graham crackers - it's junk.

My guy just welded a generic bolt to a steel ring, ground the tip of the bolt a bit, and called it done..

update

Tomkinson has to order the e12 part from Germany - will take a week to 10 days. Bimmerdoc came through and had one laying around for the e9 - on its way to me now. I'll keep you posted on fit.

Jay, you need to find the right Welder. Someone that doesn't want his unskilled work to come back on him.
This is coming from a old Boilermaker/Blacksmith welder

Or you can still buy the original part (clutch master complete unit) from BMW for about €250 = approx $300.

I happened to find out that today while driving....

Cheers
Anders
