I am having to lengthen the pos and neg coil wires in order to fit the coil to
its usual position in the upper right corner of the engine compartment. I have a
motronic 1.3 system and the coil wires are to short. The 2 pos wires (green) are
no problem (standard type wires). My issue is that the neg wire appears to be a
very thick black wire that has a very thick shielding of some sort. It appears
have a metal shielding of some sort like a type of co-ax wire. It is the top wire in the pic.

Before I go cutting it all up, is this a special shielded wire? or am I reading
to much into this.

Help before I go snipping away! Thanks, DCG

That black wire goes from pin 1 of the ecu to the coil and to the diagnostic plug of the Motronic 1.1 and 1.3.

The big green wire comes from the ignition switch to the coil #15 and the little green wire comes back from the coil #15 to the ecu pin 27

The shielding you are concerned about is there to control "noise"

All the shielding wires go to vital signals:

Coil
TPS
O2
TDC
Cylinder id

And each of those shielding wires end up connected to a Brown/Orange wire that is grounded to Chasis

Follow the schematic and it is easier.
