Hi, i recently acquired a '74 csi that is in a bit of a state, part stripped, fully caged and ripe for race car conversion. On a positive side, it did come with an original rubber tipped ducktail and some 16" Alpina style split rims.

I am trying to find out more information re these wheels and their potential value since i may sell them on longer term to part fund some much wider wheels.

What i do know having performed a search on the net (not much came up) and having contacted Compomotive is that they are 16" 3-piece split rims, 20 bolt, BM600 alloy wheels of which manufacture ceased in about 1983/84. They are in the Alpina style of that time and i assume Compomotives offer similar to the wheels of Hardy & Becks and WEDS.

They are about 7" wide front and rear, and very light.

Just trying to find out general informatio; when they were offered, what market, sizes, can they be widened (probably not since the likelyhood of finding specific wider rims is somewhat remote) and so on. The car itself is proving to have some, although not of any pedigree, interesting history having been through auction twice in 20 years including coys, track prepared, larger engine, 5-speed box, magazine featured 10-years or so ago etc etc.

Cool find.

OK now, spill the beans...some pics of the car please. ;-)

Have fun with it!

my 2 cents; for what it's worth

I would suggest you post more photos of the wheels with any clear indications of markings that would help identify them. There are several members here who vintage race or collect.

Yes, there were several widths. Some as much as 10". Alpina had literature explaining their offerings on wheel sizes in detail. Wether your wheels and those offered by those who converted or tuned, I can't say for certain since it appears they multiple sourced.

The alloy designation is interesting if you can explain it more.

If there is any clue to the car's affiliation with a driver, origin, team, season, etc., it might point the way to some more information.
