Reminds me of an admonition written above the urinal at Hilton Head Island airport, "All those with short stacks or low manifold pressure, please taxi forward". I thought about it, and concluded it was a reasonable expectation.
 
Now that's a difficult post to follow ...

The usual "suspects" have all been mentioned, but if all else fails, look for air leaks, either at the manifold gaskets or the myriad of hoses that either are still attached to something correctly or plugged with little spare screws and other bits of hardware.
 
So I decided to douse the crap out of the jets with some hard-core carb cleaner and go to bed. Started the next morning to an uproarious fire. Hesitation is gone. Now, if I can just solve the run-on we're set. Thanks so much for the info-- this site is invaluable.
