Congratulate Don on showing at the Atlanta Concours d'Elegance yesterday bringing home an award. I had the very nice pleasure of judging his car along with Keith Martin (yes "that" Keith Martin!) who was the lead judge in this class. It was held at the Chateau Elan's golf course which is very near Road Atlanta. There was some pretty stiff competition in this class: an M1, Maserati Prototype 1961 (won Best of Show post war), Maserati Ghibli Spyder, 2002 Tii original owner and original car - the preservation award winner.

Don has had this car for 5 years, it is pretty perfect right down to the red handled tools and window comb.

Congratulations Don!

(tried to upload a picture but could not figure out how, sorry Don)

Amy, thanks for your very gracious comments -- and for whatever you did to pad my score. You should have explained to Keith that working turn signals were optional on coupes.

This was the inaugural Atlanta Concours and I think it has potential to join Amelia and Hilton Head as big-time events in the Southeast US. Wonderful quality and variety of cars. Saturday was the usual car club show and Sunday was for invited cars. Only 4 BMWs on Sunday so we need to cultivate that. Quality if not quantity: Fran and Scott Hughes' amazing Inka M1, Bruce Hall's original-owner, 46K mile, bought-at-the-factory, absolutely original survivor '72 Verona tii, and my '71 2800CS in our class. David Lowen had his blue Elf Limo 600 in another class. That was it for our Bavarian Wonders.

Fun side story: The pic below shows me holding the homemade wooden trophy for "Best Tools." One of the beneficiaries of the concours proceeds was the Atlanta Tool Bank and, while by their own admission they know nothing about vintage cars, they know fancy toolboxes. I explained that mine looked clean because I didn't know how to use any of them. And cue all the jokes about being the biggest tool there.

I know that George Whiteley got lots of pics so maybe he'll post some.

Oh the "tool" jokes are going to be tough when we get to Hilton Head Don.
Watch out.
Another great member of our group BMW Classics of Georgia brings home the trophy.
Great job.......

Another trophy! Good for YOU! Super, I am pleased for you that you won this over the other tool boxes shown. No nothing like our coupe tool boxes for sure.

BMW's rein for sure.

Thanks for sharing the article from Keith Martin. Love the shots of your car and the famous tool box!

At this rate, you won't be approachable at Euro...................

Congratulations Don! I could never compete with you in the tool box arena! My CSL has never had a tool box! ];>) I would love to see your car sometime.

Be safe,

Roger

P.S. Isn't it great to see Amy on here again? She got me started on this coupe madness years ago with her beautiful car.

Amy didn't know were involved with the FML, was a long time subscriber a ways back.

Don: Congratulations!! What a beautiful car you have.

Yes I worked with Gerald Roush for 7 years. It was a dream job for me even though it was not BMW related. Gerald was a professor of history prior to working at FAF (Ferrari of Atlanta as their parts guy) and then starting the FML (Ferrari Market Letter) at his home. So anytime time I asked a question about a certain car or person he was so happy to "teach" me with all his significant files and books it was well..... I can't describe it. They paid me to be there too.

Thanks, Scott. I restored a P-car many years ago to show condition and never really enjoyed driving it after that. My wife said I was afraid to get air on it. Our coupe will always be a driver first. Freude am fahren.
