Hi,

Can someone help me understand what’s going on with the console trim in these photos? Is this just incorrectly assembled, or does some trim need to be replaced. If the latter, what exactly am I looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Nice floor mats!
My take on that problem is that its inherent to the design. Those side trim pieces are allowed to wiggle around with road bumps, legs pushing against them ect... And then rub against the metal center section eventually cutting into the already thin and aged plastic/vinyl. Yours appear to have been repaired at some point, and look thicker than stock and there is not much room to begin with.

Thanks - so do you think the irregular trim that meets the sides of the console is an attempt at repair that hasn’t worn so well?

The car photographed in a my previous post belongs to a family member. Mine looks like the photos attached to this post, and it seems like that piece isn’t there at all.

Can't speak for all years or possible outcomes of the factory but that is what it looks like to me.

The vinyl on your family’s car is not original. That means it has been disassembled and reassembled improperly. That chunk of vinyl on the inside edge shouldn’t be there. It almost looks like the seam of the new vinyl. Also, they need to adjust the height of the console so the gap isn’t so large at the grab rail.

Also when these got ac in the usa dealers they often didn’t reassemble them with the greatest of care

I know the 2002's had dealer-installed A/C. Did the dealers also install A/C on coupes and Bavarias in the early '70's?
Yes, parts came in a box in the trunk. That would mean they came without any console bits like in a euro coupe, just a clean slate to install the A/C bits.
