Trunk Renewal - I'm looking for a solvent that will remove the "contact cement' or whatever was used to glue the trunk elephant skin covers over the rear wheel wells and attaches the fabic to the insides of the rear quarter panels - without removing the paint at the same time! Suggstions?

Saturate with Goo Gone/Goof Off and a strategically employed plastic putty knife?
3M automotive aerosol adhesive remover works real well. Spray on, let remover saturate and soften dried adhesive per instructions and scrape off with plastic putty knife. Will not harm cured paint. I once scraped off the entire hood foam insulation glue residue on my 88 M6, when done, the paint looked absolutely brand new.
Goof off is a combination of acetone and Xylene. Straight up Xylene will remove the glue fast and not hurt the paint. Wear a chemical resistant gloves and respirator with any petroleum distillates. Be sure to lay any saturated rags or paper towels flat in a well ventilated area, or dispose of properly in a fire proof metal container. They will spontaneously combust.

BLUMAX has found that simple mineral spirits from Ace Hardware or any other paint store source works great--is very inexpensive compared to other solvents mentioned, it works on most adhesives and is harmless to virtually any hard surface including cured paint, trim, mechanisms, etc.
A great grease remover for cleanup of inner door openings, old dried grease on window mechanisms, inside the bottom of doors, underhood adhesive removal, and general cleaning--almost everywhere--BLUMAX has enjoyed use all over his body for years without incident.
