Good afternoon folks.

I'm most of the way through converting my 2800 to rear disks. I bought a complete rear subframe and trailing arms, brakes, etc from a 3.0CS from a kind member here.

I have it all figured out except how to do the parking brake lines. The old lines engaged the cam for the rear drums, and I left those hanging from above the center driveshaft bearing.

I have the 3.0CS cables still connected to the disk brakes now and they are different. What parts do I need to get to connect them to the "junction" up under the center bearing? Any links or part numbers would be extremely helpful.

Thanks!
James

PS: Looking fwd to driving Sahara w/ here La Jolla suspension kit installed, and rear disks...:-)

#14 in the picture is the cable from the 2800cs. They used the same picture for the parts exploded picture, but don't list the items that don't apply to the year / model you picked.

This is the number for the drum brake cable

This is the number for the disk brake cable

On the realoem.com the is a place you can plug in the part number to search.

Looks like the disk brake cables should replace the drum cables, unless there is a difference in how the cables are routed.

i have not done this conversion so someone else might have more insight.

Thank you for the help Wayne.

I have the correct cables coming from the disk brakes but what I think I am missing is how to join them together and connect them to the parking brake lever.

For someone who has worked on this before, if I have the correct cables coming from the disks do I just remove the cover from the underside of the body and attach the cables to what's already there, or do I need more conversion parts.

Thanks
James

Hello James, I have not done the conversion however I have completely re done 2 drum 2800's and a disc 3.0. Once you have the cables coming out of the drums or discs they should hang freely with a threaded end at the end of each cable. there also should be a cable shield that is about 2 feet long that covers the cables from the disc/drum attaching point and extending towards the threaded end that eventually goes into the cabin. OK, here is what I know, the disc cable shield has a sturdy black rubberized coating over what I believe is a wound steel shield, while on the 2800 the wound steel shield seems to be just painted black- regardless the purpose is the same, to give the cable something to pull against. Then there is a hollow plug that goes around the end of the cable and fits into the end of the guide tubes that are welded to the bottom of the car. From there the cables are fed up the tube to the parking brake lever and it is helpful if you have someone jiggle those around to get them all the way up. The cable goes below the rear sway bar (I think). This is the only shot I have handy:

handbrake cables

Hi James,

the 2 cables from the rear handbrake in the 3.0 CS actually run all the way up and into the passenger comp, where they both are attached to the handbrake, one either side.

From your explanation, i understand the the 2800 only has one cable from the handbrake lever, exiting through the passenger compartment, and that one is split in 2 below the floor? That would be the reason of your puzzle.

See for pics of a 3.0 CS handbrake the (excellent) thread of DeQuincey, who happens to have some pics of how the two cable ends (m6 threads) are attached to the base of the handbrake lever.

does this help?
