I wanted to get some comments on my Coolant Temperature. I had problems with my Coolant Temperature and fluxuation. I was able to bleed my system as many have suggested. The temperature after bleeding normalized. The majority of the time it is just under the 3'oclock. However, two trips ago after about 20 min of driving with the temp just below 3, it suddenly went up to just below the red. With a few minutes more of driving it then went back down. When I got home coolant was being released through the overflow. I have re bleed the system and too it out again and it was down below 3 again. Today, I took it out for about 40 min and it was consistently below 3, at a stop it would creep to 3 maybe a bit above but when I started to drive again it came back down to below 3. Anyone else experience this. It's very puzzling to me.

Two

different issues. First, If you were driving w/airflow across the radiaitor the likely culprit is a sticking t-stat. ( Wide swing)

The second condition indicates the t-stat working but water or airflow is a problem. Pump or partial restricted radiator would be the place to start. Short swing- slow air across the radiator.

Assuming S. Cali temps are modest at 75 degrees and we're not near the desert.

you need to examine several issues quickly before your head gasket lets go it if hasn't already.
Remove your expansion tank hose from the radiator at the expansion tank and verify that you have a clear flow at idle.
Remove the hose at the other end and auger the nipple out and verify you have a clear flow at idle.
Check to see if you have lots of air bubble coming out of that hose at idle.

You didn't say if you have a fan clutch- open the hood and watch the fan at idle with the engine at operating temp. Now turn the car off. How many times does the fan keep turning?

Hose is free of any obstructions and there are no bubbles.
Fan Clutch is engaged.

Sounds like crud in the expansion system blocking air bubbles from bleeding off.
Did you drill your t-stat?

Do you have a pinhole leak on your radiator? Mine was leaking at the end tank/core connection in one small spot. It never left a spot on the ground, I had to go in with a flashlight to find it. It would get an air bubble within about 1 week of sitting after being bled with this small leak.
