I've noticed that no two examples anywhere are the same. We have new door skins with no holes. Think they look strange in the middle and also at the very end of the door. Ours were originally here, both sides the same? Ours were in two different locations. Many thanks

Attached the results of my research
The 99,5 mm is measured from the end of the door - over the line. The cardboard is used for a (red) line at 90 degrees to the top of the door.
Then 82 mm backwards the second line.

I used special “nuts in a cage “
The nuts are/will be coated afterwards.

Good luck

Fritzie, your setting looks like it is too close to the leading edge of the door, most of what I have seen is more like the first picture. I also found that the mirror opposite the driver is off set a little from the other side so when you are looking at the mirror, you are not looking thru the straight edge of vent window.

Thanks, Rick

My understanding is that driver side mirror is close to door edge for Euro builds. I think the Euro placement is the best.

I do not know if the passenger side should be in the same place, it depends on the angle from where the seat is.
I suspect there was no official placement for the passenger side mirror as they were not factory installed, at least in 1972. It may make sense to locate them in the same place just to preserve symmetry.
