Correct shade of silver/grey for the early, original wheels

Thank you.
Yet again this board proves to be a true source of very valuable information. Some very knowledgeable people with hands on experience, willing to share this with others. We all appreciate this.

I was inquiring about this very same thing

I ended up using self etching primer and then Krylon Dull Aluminum, followed by a clear laquer. I spent a long time sanding and cleaning my rims and in my opinion look prefessionally finished. I just completerd them yesterday and will get some photos posted shortly.

Factory wheels were painted with Polaris Silver code 060. Same as the paint used on the bodies of silver cars.
Krylon dull aluminum was a wonderful paint but I can't find it for the last 3-4 years as they have stopped making it?
Wurth wheel silver and clear coat is also a very good substitute, and certainly easy enough for anybody to use.
ps/ck

Krylon Dull Aluminum

Peter: I tried all the big chains, Lowe's Depot, Sears, Pep Boys, Wal and K Mart and I ended up finding it in my local hardware store which I think is ACE affiliated.

Wheel paints--finish with clear coating--try

3-4 very light passes with Wurth clearcoat over the silver--will soften the "sparkle" to a softer luster and will make future cleaning much easier as well--a trick from my younger son--the artist--that worked well and endured for years on the original wheels of the BLUMAX

Thanks for all the expertise.
If exclude the Krylon product, which I won´t find in Europe, is the Polaris (060) colour more or less interchangeable with the Wurth product from a colour shade point of view?

A few light passes with clearcoat will make life easier from a cleaning point of view, WITHOUT making them shiny à la BBS of the 1980s?

What´s the purpose of the self etching primer? The silver paint will stick without primer to the wheels, won´t it? Is it to even out the rough surface from the casting 35-40 years ago?

Yes, I've used both Polaris Silver and Wurth and they are close enough in color that no one will know the difference.
