After some research I identified and purchased a roll of the correct 3M yellow electrical tape as was, and is, used on the original metal style Bosch regulators.

Needless to say I have quite a bit left over. As a service to this great community I will make available free of charge a length of this tape sufficient to cover around your regulator. I'll be at the Vintage so I can bring it for those who will be there. Otherwise I will mail them out as time allows. My PM mail box is perennially full so just email me at LArisso {AT} att dot net

Nice offer

I will look forward to meeting you there, and look forward to seeing the Golfster coupe. I will bring a round wooden #2 pencil for tape transfer, if that sounds ok...Have a safe trip down.

PO's are strange- or is it me? My (non-functioning-but-for-some-reason clean-it-up-and-put-it-back) voltage regulator had green tape around the base- Is this a year-thing or...

Vintage, here we come...

Hi Luis,

Looking forward to seeing you at the Vintage. What will you be driving?

PS. Save me some tape please...

Hi Larry,

Expect to take the coupe but I just dropped the engine back in following a rebuild plus brake and suspension rehab and hopefully I don't have any major issues when I re-start it in the next day or two. Is your wife attending?

Regulator questions

Does the tape serve a function, like holing the cover onto the regulator?
I wonder if silver paint would do the job?

I believe the tape provides a dust-proof, splash-proof seal for the regulator's innards. The top sort of snaps onto the base, but without tape, that joint would still admit debris. Electrician's tape, masking tape, duct tape, .... might perform the same function, but they wouldn't look right.

Opportunity to tidy up

Would removing this make access to the two scores holing the regulator easier?
There is some overspray to remove from the bracket anyway. Or I could repaint the bracket black.

The regulator is a PITA to remove because of the access to the nuts. I agree that unbolting and moving the PS reservoir away will make access easier.

Battery removal sounds like a good idea. When the reservoir is unbolted, is there any slack to move it ? With the regulator out I could mask off the area and paint over the overspray
