okay, this is the first post regarding CSLs in the coupe ancestry project ... and we are starting with RHD CSL.
If you own a RHD CSL, please look at the lists to find your VIN. if its there and you owned it on or before the year listed, we probably don't need any additional information unless you have significantly moved, changed colors ... or if your coupe is resting in peace (no longer with us). If your VIN isn't on this list, or if the date precedes your ownership / location is different, please send me a PM and we will add you to the list. Please notice that we only have info on 80 of the 500 RHD CSL ... we would like to know more. If you know of a CSL that is no longer with us, please let me know that.

here are our objectives - to find out all we know about
VIN (still living / on the road, gone forever / parts cars)
Color
Location (general, at most city / region + country)

what we aren't trying to ascertain - how original / what changes / restored or not ... if you want to provide any other info, we will keep it in the spreadsheet.
what we aren't going to do - we will NOT distribute or publish any information regarding owner, specific location.

There are 4 sections to this VIN post
1. cars that have been listed for sale at some point (auction or website)
2. cars with no verified or recent information
3. cars with the most recent information (dated) - last known country and last known color
4. cars with recently verified information (nothing else needed - this is a small list)

It's not listed in any of the registries but RHD CSL 2285087 (pretty sure a 1972 model) was destroyed by an interior fire in the 1970's here in Melbourne, Australia. The car was wrecked and the drivetrain, brakes, suspension supplanted into a Granada red 1970 E3 2800 owned by John Crowder, a local BMW/Merc mechanic. I now own that E3 and it still has the CSL mechanicals in it.

I don't have any skin on this particular game but I had a feeling I'd seen more go under the hammer in the UK - searching "Bonhams CSL" turned up (all 2285) 042; 469; 444; 119; 342 and 482 (assuming VINs on the listing are right etc.) There may be more, i suspect internet searching for UK cars may work better from this side of the pond?

Ceylon 2285247 was recently sold by tender in Christchurch New Zealand (I understand it has stayed local) http://autorestorations.co.nz/i/images/csl/Tender1973BMW30CSL.pdf

I have fjord 2285290 currently under restoration in Christchurch, NZ.

My Chaminox car is 251. I've some PDFs of 'CSL News' from the early 80s that has the vin details for known RHD cars. Want me to dig out and post here, or we just looking for present owners? I also bought a wrecked CSL for parts, will confirm vin later.
 
hi Wes, i actually would like to see the 'CSL news' ... this project is finding where cars are now, but also to try to find out about where they were before.. the vin / color of the CSL that is no longer on the road is also great information. so far, the RHD CSL is the only active participants in this project

thanks Wes ... i got it. and oh, BTW - thanks to you guys in Australia + New Zealand ... you guys are the only ones who have been responding to the project in a big way. zero response from the UK or other RHD locations
 
So here is version 2 of the RHD CSL. with the information received from Wes, we have records of 210 out of 500 cars (42%). a large majority of these records are from 1985 (nearly 40 yrs) ... and some of those coupes may no longer be with us.

Please take a look at this PDF and find your VIN ... and send me some information about it

your e9coupe alias
your general location
color of your coupe
if its still alive, gone forever / parts car

please let me know if you know of other RHD CSLs and what their status is

You got the ceylon one on Collecting Cars at the moment?
I imported 2285342 (also ceylon) from the UK a couple of years ago as was part of a larger project but ended up selling it. Now in Melb undergoing restoration.

I found information about LHD and RHD CSLs on lezebre.eu. I haven't checked them in detail but Iḿ sure they will be useful for the project.

A member of the forum, Gianni in Rome, seems to have gathered a lot of information too, It might be an idea to get in contact with him.

thanks Henrik, once i get through with the first round of the USA 3.0 cs, then i will dive into further research on lezebre.eu. i looked at that earlier on the Bat 1 + 2 ... but i was hoping that members here would PM me about their cars to maintain data privacy. i have already been through the old e9registry, half of the published e9 magazines and the CS registry on this forum. otherwise, i will end up shutting down the project due to lack of interest.
 
Looks like a few people have had a crack at identifying remaining E9s. There is also a database managed by the BMW Car Club GB - here is a recent newsletter.
