Saw this add in SF Craigslist. Is this anyone in this forum and how far can you go for $200?

ADD SAYS:
_________

Having restored 5 of these cars over the years I can help you evaluate the extent of work required to turn a prospective purchase into the car you want it to be. These are quirky cars and the question is not if there is any rust, but how much rust is there. Take advantage of my experience and let me teach you how to evaluate the CS Coupes yourself. This is not an appraisal service, determining the value of any used car is a matter of how much the buyer is willing to spend and what the seller is willing to accept.

Please reply via e-mail with your telephone and I will call evenings and weekends. I am also in the market for a solid CS Coupe if anyone has one for sale

Hmmmm

Hmmmmm, I wonder who it could be, someone who purports to know everything Coupe and spends time in the SF area? He or she would need to be an "expert" of course, able to uncover all of those pesky details either via picture, wav file or maybe even an actual on site visit. $200 sounds like a bargain. I wonder if travel expenses are included.

I do not know, but I have a suspicion!

If this person has restored 5 coupes they would surly be an expert.

I am not buying or selling, at this time, but can always use some expert advice.
Perhaps this person should be contacted to help the E9 forum members.

I would like to see some of their pics and statements of current owners as to quality of restoration. Perhaps they could help with advice for a future paint I have planned.

Please if you are a member, please speak up as I can always use the correct info on a car I have owned for 27 years. There is much I don't know about my car.
Carl and others here have helped me immeasurably in the past!

I am not sure how I feel about this offer. I would think nothing of driving 50+ miles to look at a coupe for a potential buyer. Saving someone the grief of dealing with a "rust free" coupe that ends up costing them thousands is the least we can do. Think of the hours some of you more knowledgable owners spend on this site giving and taking advice, helping with all kinds of issues. And the people who administer and run this site don't make a drachma. Come on!

Uh, the way I read this, the Craigslist advertiser doesn't travel or physically inspect cars at all. It sounds to me like he calls you on the phone, tells you how to inspect a coupe yourself, and charges $200 for this service.

No affiliation, I don't know the guy, perhaps I am misreading the ad. But, how else would you interpret the three sentences I have reprinted above?

I have a distinct feeling it's our bully and his buddies on the adjacent 'other' thread I evacuated this morning in disgust. For myself I don't think here on this forum is the place to post personal feelings and hold 'competence' hearings regarding a persons prowess in the coupe inspection business or any on-going financial enterprise for that matter.

IMHO this forum should and will remain (if I have anything to say about it) a place for everyone to enjoy discovering the unique value (and all the hard work) that's required to own and drive one...Using the facility here to help sell coupes in 'distress' that actually are rust buckets in need of real restoration is tantamount to engendering a blatant disrespect for the rest of us here... who only wish the breed to survive and who also have the intergrity to muster through the process and succeed where others fall short... and in particualar don't decide or need to work hard at selling or hawking these Coupes on Craigsleg to enjoy them.

The most I have ever charged to visit and inspect, when someone else could not as per distance away from a sale withing 100 miles was $150.00 and as you all know setting a pair of experienced eyes under and around one of these potentially rusty relics of BMW's history is critical, as often a quick spray job and a set of new tires pictured from 20 feet doesn't make a seventeen thousand dollar investment any more secure for the savvy buyer

You guys be the judge of a few of these characters?

LOL - well played...

By the way. I called the guy and i think he's legit. He said all i would have to do is send him a picture of the car and by pulling it up on his computer and then laying his face against the screen, he could 'sense' all of the issues, both obvious and hidden, that the car had. He said it would be more accurate if we both did this at the same time... i'm game. i mean, its only $200 and he is an expert...

So let me get this right...

Your service is to inspect vehicles for prospective buyers?? And you are looking for a CS coupe as well. Hmmmm sounds like a scam to steal away someones car deal. Bet you make up all kinds of stories that the cars not worth buying and try to make a side deal with the seller.

Now why in the world would someone hire you. Dont you think its a conflict of interest to send you there being that you are in the market? Duh

I would say it is about time for someone that has truly done the hundreds of hours of hands on work to professional inspect these CS cars for buyers not wanting to get ripped-off by a fast rap. Anyone that has done 5 CS cars from ground up restoration would be a valuable asset and there is not many around now days doing the real work.

I had one of these keyboard junkies with his “IMHO” crap pull a slick rap on me last week to inspect a CSI claiming he inspects CS cars too, right. The clown started trying to tell me when I was putting my finger through the rocker panel “that’s always there in that section”. At the same time he was raving about 100 mph he was trying to start the car with the return gas line off and pumping the throttle like he was starting a CSI with a carburetor and a accelerator pump, funny as he!l.
Be careful whom you talk to for an inspection on these boards there is a lot of want-to-be know-it-all slick rap jackasses on these boards all the time. IF THEY CANNOT SHOW YOU THE KIND OF WORK THEY HAVE DONE more than likely they have never ever own and E9.
You want to see the rocker panels of this beauty as he called it I looked at in near Santa Barbara, CA. I would say No thanks, the sub-frame is gone and falling out the bottom of the rocker panels, someone get the shovel out for the 100 pounds of rust and BS jackasses out there.
Watch out buyers one of them is right in front of you on this thread right now telling you his inspectors BS story.

Yup

Keep back pedaling JRan, keep back pedaling. Just because some of us aren't buying your crap, hanging on your every word and challenging you a bit does not make us bullies. Interesting tactic though.

Challenge to you: See if you can read this site and the new threads and not actually post. You don't have to have the last word every single time.

And I'm not impressed with your silly images either :-D. Just a waste of bandwidth frankly.

Just my .02 worth on this....

I doubt whether this "Service" can be taught over the phone...

Somewhere around 5 years ago I paid Ed at double 02 Salvage 100 bucks to go with me and look at my coupe before I bought it. Best 100 bucks I ever spent... Over 20 years of experience at only 30 bucks an hour.

BTW- His comment was- the engine is shot, the interior is terrible but not much rust and that is the important part..
