Has anyone bought or seen the Coupe king exhaust? Looks great and seems to be right for a 3.5 ltr engine with more than usual HP. Any thoughts and comaparisons? CK is asking for USD1500.
would love to hear what the experts have to say. keshav

Stainless Steel Exhausts

Group-
Have been following the thread on SS exhausts, as have been deep in research myself trying to build the perfect CS system. Have sold out of the first 5 units I built, and am working now on CK-SS 2.0 with what was learned from the first run.
The first run had a very sporting note--too loud for some street car customers--so am using a different longer and more baffled resonator this time. Also have available a larger rear can system for those that want an even more subtle sound, though this rear can is not stainless. Am looking to fix that. Have also found that the mounting arrangements needed a bit of refinement and repositioning of the bracketry, so am incorporating those changes, as well as upgrading the clamps to a more sophisticated aircraft type arrangement that'll be provided with the kit.
Currently have a car at the fabricators and we are building an upgraded system for testing. Hope to offer an audio file at the web site that'll allow you to hear what it sounds like without visiting us in Wilmington.
Am also reproducing an early Hartge style header for the E9 to offer with this system. It too will be stainless but will be ceramic coated for heat transfer purposes, as otherwise you'll be melting your washer bottle and bubbling paint on the hood! These are in preproduction now and I'll post pix at the web site when I have something neat to show.
One thing I have learned is that making an SS exhaust requires a lot more than taking an original muffler system and bending pipes to match.

Peter,
this sounds very interesting indeed !
Although I already have a SS system on my car (Larini) I am very interested in your system ... with the header.

Personally I like it when the exhaust is on the louder side (or sportier as you call it :) ) as my current system is a bit too 'subtle'. Given your experience 'tinkering' with this do you think it would be too loud if the system only had the read silencer (muffler), i.e. basically just a tube running from where the headers come together down to the rear silencer? I saw this setup on the Bat currently for sale by Antar in Japan.

Also what is the timeline for your header and system?

Cheers,

Ohhhhh... I want some! :D The hartge replica might be my cup of tea. Also if you could tell us the diameter of the headers and exhaust?

And how far off these projects are? By the summer hopefully?

Stainless exhaust

The systems I am building are 2.5" or about 62mm.
Have the test 'mule' CS in the air now at the fabricator. and the system is in the works. I should be testing it out in a month or so, and will post pix when I have stuff to show.
Pleased about the interest...

Peter,
Have you been able to make progress re this system?
Still very interested :)
Cheers

The new systems are coming in now, in two flavors, mild and wild.
The mild system utilizes the stock exhaust manifolds but makes new down pipes with a 'Y' tube collector and a bung for an 02 sensor for EFI systems. The center resonator we're now using is a 30" item instead of the original 16", and the back can--now fully stainless in all setups--is a bit larger as well. Cost is $1800 for this system
The 'wild' system uses our new Hartge style header, stainless steel and tig welded, then polished and ceramic heat coated in silver, grey or black. It uses a different down pipe arrangement also with the O2 port, and the same center resonator and rear can as the mild system. The exhaust pipe tip is polished stainless, obviating the need for a chrome exhaust tip. New 'wrap' style clamps are uses throughout and provide better sealing and a fitted look. Cost for this setup is $3200.
Shipping is via UPS with a fitted wooden crate that we are making now.
An audio file of the header system can be heard at my web site, mounted to my test coupe. Pix of the system as it was developed are also seen at the web page as well as a few shots of the finished items as we are getting them.
So far I am very excited at the quality of the final product. Took awhile to get here, with the right sporting note, and the fit and detail finish that I wanted.
Pix going up to the web site soon.

Ok I'm in.. saving my pennies.

Should be ready to do this by end of summer.
