Here I was waiting for my inevitable fate.......chances of getting out of this where as close as my nearest state-line.

Our first exchange left an awkward void in the air. The officer reached for his book...oh no! here we go....

He paused to confide: 'I did not want to pull you over, I was actually on my way home tonight...' 'You went flying past me so......'

He had paused again,

Behind us, a very faint clatter (klang!klang!klang!klang!) drowned the silence.....it was atypical to my knowledge......what could he be driving?

As if the 'Car Gods' had bestowed a whim of wisdom I replied with confidence: 'What do you have pulling that thing!!? ...'You came right up on my tail...!'

His face lit up...he straightened his back, lifted his chin and proudly declared: '6-point-two-liter triton V8'
(could it be a Ford Patrol truck!?)

I quickly followed: 'That must be quite an engine.'

The officer flashed a smile as if to admit defeat and said: 'It is. OK you can get out of here but keep the speed down.'

I waited nano-seconds before engaging gear and merging back onto the interstate. I headed straight for the next exit which had a pleasant off-ramp sweeping up & West all under a steady row of street lights.

We were now heading towards the ocean and the air had cooled down a bit. Our journey continued slowly on 'B' roads so I fostered the eberspacher exhaust into full crescendo as she sang into the night.

The lesson? Think fast, think with confidence, never back-down from a battle, and trust in the 'Car Gods'

I gambled. And won.

Thanks for reading,
