Trolling..... Real coupe value really is determined by what someone is willing to pay right? Well I'm a serious buyer, and here's my story. Maybe I'm all wet, let me know....

I've wanted a coupe since I bought my first car age 19 in '72 when I ended up "settling" for a '70 2002. Fast forward- 4 boys, 2 grandkids, several(non-coupe) bmws, a couple of Alfa's, Porsches, several unmentionables and company cars every 2-3 years....

I've just decided to give up the restoration of a '73 CSi that I started 8 years ago. After many years of banging the boards playing hockey, TRYING to hit a golf ball 350 yards, a rear end car accident, and two very recent neck operations, the fine motor skills and strength in my hands are shot. No more cutting, welding, and grinding for me. If I have to contract the remainder of my restoration effort out, I'm going end up paying more than the cost of a decent driver- lesson learned... but I have no regrets- I like to wrench and build stuff, it's been fun.

I've built up an inventory that includes- freshly upholstered black leather seats, ALL rubber, almost perfect dash, reveneered burled walnut wood, new Bilsteins, ST lowering springs, sway bars, 5 speed Getrag, CSL street airdam, decent trim, good lenses, extra widgets and trim from a parts car etc.....I'm hanging on to all of this stuff until I find a car that has the minimum of my requirements as follows-

Solid straight body with little to "no" rust. Strong engine and drivetrain. Pay extra for desirable mods like 3.5L FI, 5speed. Condition of paint and interior is not so important, since I'll paint to suit my taste (Atlantik or Schwartz). I'm allotting 15-21K in this budget and would pay more if the color and finish is right.

To put things into perspective, the car listed in this thread looked very promising. For whatever reason, the owner has not answered my attempts to reach him- http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8329

Once I find the right car, if I duplicate any mods that I have in my inventory, then it gets listed on the board along with leftovers in an attempt to recoup my losses.

You might say, my end goal is to be like my hero- Murray, with 400K+ miles on my Atlantik coupe when I hit 92.

Any leads on cars that fit the bill would be appreciated. I realize I'm targeting a CA car. No problem. It'll go to a good home out here in the east, never to play in the rain and "bagged" in the winter season.

Comments appreciated....Thanks to all.

That coupe was on eBay last May with a starting asking price of $15K in Texas. This was the owner's comments on this board:

"I am considering spending a lot of money for me , 30-40k, on a restoration of a 1972 3.0cs. A well known BMW shoppe in the midwest has evaluated the car a Chamoix over Blue guts car from TX with minimal rust repair."

Looks nice from the photos but it may need more than you want to spend, or maybe not.

I think you've added a decade to Murray's years - he's still a youthfull 82. I'm sure he'll still be driving Blumax at 92, but it will have more like 500K at that point.

Incidently, Murray and 'max were a big hit at last weekend's Desert Classic Concours in LaQuinta. Wish I had a picture of them to post.

I'll need the extra 10 years to reach 400K, that is, if gas is still available. Course I won't need all 3.5 litres to speed down the highway at a blistering 40MPH!!!
