Anyone here have a coupe that they strap a surfboard to the roof? Saw a silver CS two days ago on 17 mile drive near pebble beach. Such a cool sight. I was in my Carrera GT with five other friends and their 911s.

Cars n Coffee

We will at cars n coffee this Sat if anyone is around. I hoped to pick up the newly refurbished and tweaked Jabberjaw but it's not done. You know how those things go. Don and Terry are the best and will get it done right. That car deserved to be put back to awesome.

I had a surfboard and two mtn bikes on the roof of the coupe with a buddy once. after we loaded it all up, we laughed and took pics as it was getting dark after a great day of single track. The coupe looked hilarious loaded for good times! The coupe was going on safari!

As we pulled out of the wooded driveway in the San Mateo/Santa Cruz mountains, then SNAP!! Then we were looking at all the gear and rack laying on my windshield and hood...Oh Crap! We got out in disbelief to discover that my bike seat post caught the telephone line going down to the house below the driveway. It proceeded to yank/tear the bikes and rack off the roof and dump it all on the windshield and hood. DOH!!

after being stunned with disbelief the the windshield did'nt break as we looked and the tangled mess on my hood, we stuffed the bikes in the in the back, thankful for the rear seat delete and put the board and rack back on the roof. Thankfully nothing happened the the roof rack (yakima) or roof rails or gear, save a little blemish on the roof from the bike fork stabbing it in the melee.

Moral of the story, watch your stack height, departing angles, the telephone lines in the deeps woods!

;-)

Hey Chuck- thanks for the chance to drive the the GT- I'm still having nightmares about over-revving it...... :p

I carried a hang glider on my cs roof from Denver to San Diego and back when I got married in 1989. 2 week trip.
19' long and 12" diameter.
Should have taken pic's.

shoots...

My CS ... IS my surf car. It's had Bay Standard "Aloha" racks on it for more than 20 years. I carry my longboard (9'4"), regular (7'10"). gun (10'3") or shorty (7') depending on where and when. Sometimes several. I ought post a pic, but...

Early on, I was leery of parking it at some spots. Since then, I've adjusted. I leave the car unlocked since nothing in the car is worth more than the window that would get broken to take it. Carry only a driver's license, no wallet or cash.

Some local knowledge and being careful about selecting a parking place helps.

Better yet,
Sorry Doug, love this one. Resides on the shop beer / fish fridge

nice looking canoe

Is that strip planked contruction?

Strapped so it ain't going ANYWHERE but where the roof is headed. Overkill?

H - Yes it's cedar strip and about 35 years old. The strap down fastening was barely enough on that day with the Chinook winds blowing. We never got the canoe of the car in two days and the dog had to be tied down to keep from blowing away.

That is a good one; almost wonder if the coupe would lift off with an up-drafted on the canoe. I remember the old hanging 10 toes on the nose of a long board on the roof rack driving down the street when we were young, wish I had a photo.

E9 with longboard- Roof racks needed

How funny! This is a great thread. The coupe with Canoe on top makes me feel a little less guilty of my own indiscretions.

I have a silver/red '73 coupe that lives in Pebble Beach/Carmel.
90 percent of the time it has a 9'6" Yater strapped to the roof, a redwood finished veneer that nicely matches the interior wood.

I'm certain you saw my car parked while I was checking the waves
At Spanish Bay or BSing with the characters that surf there.

Up until January, this was my daily beach cruiser. Yes- I'm sure it
Is somehow a travesty that I use it as such.
The car will never be a show queen, though it presents nicely and drives
Like it should. During the concours I stay on the move lest the highly-critical eyes of the numerous E9 aficionados that fill the area get a close look at my car. I love the car! I've owned it for five years- resurrected from the
The backyard of a bitter but sexy divorced woman from Marin.

Like my cousin in Hawaii- I leave the car unlocked Everywhere, knowing the time and cost of replacing a window. Obviously, nothing valuable is left in the car itself, and I have a spare Nardi in the trunk in case someone tries to nick the steering wheel.

The car is now getting a long-awaited stripping, welding and spraying.
Hopefully I'll have it back soon, and you'll see me back at the beach.

....and yes, I am aware what salty air does to coupes.

Nothing lasts forever, and if I am ever afraid to throw a surfboard on my car and head to the beach, in fear of damaging my car, please slap me for having my priorities totally out sync.

Which brings me to the reason for writing this post...

Can anyone recommend a slim, low-profile, horizontal pair of roof rails that looks
Sporty enough to complement the car? I have looked high and low and can
Find nothing to suit it. The ideal rack would run horizontally, be made of gracefully-shaped chrome, and sit maybe an inch or two above the roof.

Probably a lot to ask for.

Say hi if you see me out there!

Chris
