@Rex Kapriellian -That e28 pump puts out slightly higher fp than the original (2.5bar vs 2.0) which is as close as you can get. Any higher pressure pumps can stress the fpr and can cause issues (so I'm told). Have your original rebuilt and keep it. Don't change that round power connector if you don't have to. Run pigtails to the new pump from it as @sfdon did on mine.
 

Electric fuel pump problem

I recently purchased a 1972 3.0CSi. It runs well but the fuel pump is leaking. I tried to replace it with an aftermarket unit but the car would not run for more than a few seconds even though it seemed to put out quite a bit of fuel at the end of the line. I borrowed a fuel pressure gauge...
