Coupes and Watches

You'll likely have to find an independant watchmaker that knows Seikos
Gents, also happy to refer via PM an independent watchmaker that know's classic Seikos. He examined a NOS "Diver" recently that I questioned and confirmed it was a counterfeit (argh! Return/refund in process..). He is in Gold Country, CA.

I just read an article on used demand for Rolex is soaring due to the "T" word. Of course, day late and a bitcoin short on this. I knew I should have bought the Cameron Deepsea Sea Dweller when I had a chance at it used for $10K. So, hang on to those cool Rolex's. Also a big Pepsi fan. One of these days!

I just went to the college graduation of my niece (associates degree from the junior college and attending Cal Poly in the fall to get her Bachelors - my college - and I am stoked :) )

She is really into retro things.
I bought her a turntable for her present. Her eyes lit up like I have never seen when she opened that up.
On top of that - She was very proud to show me her Casio LCD watch that she wears every day (1990 era vintage - I think).
She does not fancy a 'fancy' watch - but to see her energy in describing how she loves the Casio and how she is on the hunt for just the right 'calculator' version - and that she is a budding audiophile... I am one happy uncle.

The watch was something along these lines

Maybe I am repeating old stories but I think watches have Karma.
My father in law, in Uruguay, gauged his world through the big screen of movies and the TV.
He picked watches that he saw winners wear, he saw Paul Newman and his Rolex Daytona, and says he saw Moshe Dayan wear a Rolex Daytona while praying at the wall, at the end of the 1967 war. So he got a 1967 Rolex Daytona.
I think he was wrong on Dayan, but it was an excellent purchase, now owned by my son.
Karma will close the circle the day my son wears the 1967 Rolex Daytona driving the 1967 Fulvia Zagato Daytona tribute I am building.

Very beautiful Andrew. I recall you telling me you had one a while back on the other watch thread I believe. I should have taken your advice at the time and bought it (not yours but the one that was for sale). It came with the box and the certificate etc. from a trusted vintage collectibles shop in Laguna Beach I have known the guy for years. Of course it was at a time when the prices were plunging. I looked at it like more of an investment at the time, now I don't. I would never sell so no need to worry about the investment side of it. Still one of my favorite watches with a great back story. Thanks for posting, you have me kicking myself today...LOL

Thanks for the link to the wall clocks. I can afford those...good idea!

Seiko automatics... at death's door I guess

Andrew, thank you for the recommendation. Received the Sea Dwellar Clock today...super cool!...Ha ha..
Cool - I will have to check them out. I need another working clock out in the shop.
Several years ago, I bought a very cheap clock lookalike of my Breiting Aerospace watch as a hanging clock. But now that thing has stopped running.
I bought a new cheap replacement movement to install in place of the similar cheap original - but have not had a chance to put it in yet.
I also have a similar sized MOBIL Oil wall clock that was given to my Dad sometime in the 1980's that also recently started having issues. Will try to get both these things running again (in my free time). :)

I did buy a cheap IKEA wall clock to have in the meantime. But a Rolex style wall clock could be fun out here.....
