I have not done a lot of deals on Craigslist but lately all of the BMW cars and parts sellers are a bunch of MORONS!!!

One guy was advertising a 2800CS parts car... I called the seller and left several messages over about a week... Finally he calls back and we make a deal on some parts and we agree to meet the next day.... I called him 5 times the next day and he never answered or ever called back... Then a week later the car was listed again... Same story he never answers the phone... So I figure the guy is a stroke and forget about him... Two weeks later the car is advertised again!

Then my buddy sees a Tii Sunroof advertised on the first day on Craigslist for $16,500 with decent photos and a great description... He emails and the seller replies to the email with a phone number... My buddy calls and that guy does the same exact thing.. The seller never answers or returns any of the numerous messages my buddy left.

Finally on the 5th day the seller answers and they talk. The seller still has the car says he wants to sell... They agree to meet in the morning... The guy blows my buddy off and never returns his calls... 2 weeks later the car is back on Craigslist at $14,500! My buddy calls and again NO ANSWER... Just voicemail and no return calls..

A week or so ago an E9 was advertised for the 3rd time in Texas and the seller would not respond until after 10 days... He said he is to busy to meet until next month! The buyer emailed that he had cash and would pay the full asking price and would come with a trailer and pickup the car day or night.... The seller said he was toooo busy?

What the hell is going on?

Craigslist, like the internet in general, provides both good people and lowlifes access to the market, not always for the good. It's like the wild west - opportunity, but watch your back.

Steve usually when a seller advertises it is because they want to sell!

These Craigslist guys are all just jerking people around!

You tell them you have cash, will pay their price and will come to them at any time day, night weekend and they do not respond!

But a week later the item is listed for sale again! Why continue to advertise if you do not want to sell?

This is getting to be STOP!

I have never seen anything like this on the internet, newspaper etc. :(

Just wondering if Kijiji is big in the US. Seems to be putting CL out of business in Canada. Same type of clientele however.

You've answered your own question to some extent. Once they fail to follow through, you know they're not serious sellers. Although sometimes it appears to be just pure laziness that can be overcome by extreme persistence.

It has something to do also with the amount it costs to advertise.

The recycler was always free and people would respond immediately....

There are a lot places that sellers can advertise for free and ebay costs very little...

It is just amazing how many people are so lazy that they refuse to even return a phone call...

Then some of these same people will complain that they have no money!

There was one complete idiot that had a car listed at $12,800... I called him three times and he never returned my calls.... A week or two later he listed the same car for $9,500... I would probably have paid the guy around $12,000 but the moron walked away from at least $2,500-$3,000 by not responding to my calls...

Big-time challenge using those sites...besides the non-professional reply or none at all!

...there is risk of loss to the buyer...of the car they drive to the purchase and the money they bring...there are some bad types that lure buyers and sellers to a location and club you taking your car and money. It is happening but not published like it should.

Choose a location that is public, like the local police station parking lot, before you meet the unknown!

Batting average...

I guess my batting average is better than yours. I found both my E9 and its wheels by using Craigslist. I guess I got lucky each time.

I did encounter the lackadaisical attitude you mention a few months ago. Had that not been the case, I might be commenting on VolvoP1800.com right now!

Craiglist is definitely hit or miss.

Sometimes you get lucky, like the '72 csi I bought a couple of years ago from a guy who had it advertised on CL as a 'Two Door Bavaria'.

Blinkling... Some guys like Mike Fazio are real!

Not all of the people on Craigslist are stokes but enough are say around 50%... After calling a lot of people and almost half were non responsive I was starting to wonder WTF is going on!

1 out of 2 ain't bad...

50% is more than I would expect from 'the general public.' How is Mr. Fazio? Has he finished either of his Volkswagen projects?
