While driving my e9 this afternoon I noticed that the tachometer was misbehaving. It would drop to zero sit then bounce around. Shortly afterward I noticed that the engine began to run poorly. Very rough. This problem seemed to get worse - then it went away. Obvious electrical problem - I'll check connections ....any suggestions.

Could be the distributor/ballast resistor wire connections - are these solid? Points or Pertronix?

Tacky Tach and Rough Running

Electrical, yes.

1. bad points, cap, etc. Check gap, pitted badly, cracks, etc.
2. Coil going bad. primary and secondary resistance bleed.( Meter)
3. Disconnect the black wires to the neg. side of the coil and see if it runs better. ( Shorting wire to tach- going to ground. Check with a meter.)
4. Bad ignition switch.
5. Loose battery cables.
6. Altenator- partially shorting.
7. Loose wire on starter.
8. Wire loose at tach shorting to ground.

Thanks

I cleaned the points and reset them - this seemed to do the trick. But since the problem was intermittent to begin with I'll keep my fingers crossed.
