Hi there,

The following build/resto has been going for about 4-5 years, mainly the owner and his son who disassembled the car 5 years ago, had the shell sandblasted and repaired, put all the stuff away in Big boxes, bought more boxes of old parts, moved all of it around a few times, Got the car painted in a lovely Grey color, and then in the Fall of 2013 i was brought into the project to get things going and done the Right Way!

Engine was done by a local Ferrari garage, at a resonable cost.
New rings, bearings, timing chain, fresh hone etc. So basicly a fresh engine less pistons, rods, valves and cams - the engine was mechanicly a very good example prior to the rebuild!

State of the car as I Got involver with the project.

The painting was done local, by one of Europas Best painters (He has won the European Championship for painters before!), and is almost perfect except a few issues on the boot, so it Will need to be redone prior to finishing the car.

When i started toget involved, only subframes, diff and a-arms had been sandblasted and painted.

I had all bolts, minor stuff and loads more zinc plated, and then started the long journey of rebuilding all parts to my standards!

Meanwhile the owner Got on with the job of sounddeadening the car.

Then it was time to start with all the wiring in the car, as it all looked -Well lets just say Not pretty!

Almost everything is done by now, but only a few hours left on that job!

Heater matrix disassembled, all flaps are getting zinc plated, the heater core is getting rebuild by a local specialist.

Subframes rebuild, new bushes everywhere, all bolt zinc plated, new suspension custom made by KW in germany!

At the same time a local Company (Baadsgaard & Esbjerg) has been doing a lot of the leather work on the car, all seats are also done by now - have no pictures yet!

Lots more to come, as progress is beeing made!

Awesome progress on this restoration! Looks like it's going to turn out amazingly beautiful. Congrats and great job so far!

Thank you very much!

The overall plan is to build a car that is a great drivers car, pleasing to the eye, and done once and for all!
That last bit puts a lot of pressure on every aspect of the build, as we have a lot of small things moving along all the time.
At the moment the steering column is moving along slowly, we glasblasted it last week (it helps a lot to have a blasting cabinet), painted it, rebushed the brake and clutch pedal assembly, blasted and painted the pedals, everything has been cleaned up, repainted, greased and whatever it needs to be at its best!

At the same time the windscreen wiper system has been dissassembled, glas blasted, motor cleaned up and checked over, and some parts are ready for zinc coating (we are building up a pile of parts to zinc coat as it make the Price a bit lower Per kilo).

Its more or less the same for the rest of the build - a lot of projects moving along slowly, but it makes more sense to do it this Way, as there are LOADS of stuff that needs doing!

In my first post I mentioned that all parts belonging to the car was moved around a few times - somehow some parts are gone missing, including the front wheel hubs! These are available from bmw Classic, but at 445 euro/590 USD a piece  The Hunt for a set of used ones began.
At last, we stumbled across a complete set of old rusty, but useable/restoreable ones!
That was one more thing Down - just a few thousand more to do!

Lovely work so far, what colour grey is that? Original BMW Anthracite-grey?

Looking forward to seeing progress.

nice

i LIKE the black intake tubes, are you doing same with throttle body? pls show us some pics of fully assembled engine when able.

The grey is a bmw colour, not sure its a e9 colour though!

Yeah, leather looks awesome - all seats are done by now, but dont have any pictures yet.

The throttle body is silver, but the collector tank is done in wrinkle black like the runners - its the same as ferrari and masserati.

Lots of small jobs getting done at the moment - front suspenssion is completely assembled with the 3-way KW's, rebuild wheelhubs, new wheelsbearings, new OE brakedisc (painted with high temp matte black), new top mounts etc. - just need brackets for brake hoses back from zinc coating, and they are ready to be bolted onto the chassis.
The stearing arms that bolts up to the dampers have been modified, so the rebound valves can be adjusted when its all assembled.
Soon its time to make all the brake and fuel pipes - once that is done, its time to put the engine and transmission back in, front subframe etc!

The heater core is back after its rebuild, and it looks beatyfull!

I promise to update with lots more picture as soon as possible!

Cheers for the comments!

As promised a little update, been quite busy doing small jobs, so nothing interesting, except a few pictures of parts getting done.

The 3-wat KW's are all done.

Heater core rebuilt.

Steering coloumn + brake booster mounted.

And thn the beatyfull front seats.

The red seats with the white stitching look stunning! very nicely done.

Do you have the exact color name and bmw code for the gray you used?

WOW! Very nice and thank you for sharing the progress.Looks to be one of the nicest rebuilds done here.

Some ups and downs been going on for the last couple of days.

Up-side:
Lots of small brackets, nuts, washer, bolts etc. has been glas blasted (My arms are really suffering now, having spent the best part of 16 hours this week blasting stuff!!!), lots are going out for zinc coating/passivating, new headlamps are soon to be delivered.

Down-side:
Took the engine out to go over what we needed, and spotted that the rebuild just wasnt done good enough (My oppinion).
The flange at the backside of the head (Heater hose attached to this?) had lots of deep pits and lots of corrosion.
Trying to get it out 2 of the 3 bolts snapped, so will have to load it and get it to my job where we have the nessesary tools to get them out.
Also the heat sensitive fanclutch is noisy - bearing is dead and there is something that rattles in it - so that will have to be dealt with. Other than that it looks like we are ready with most parts for the engine and suspension.

Next up is painting lots a few parts, make new hardlines for the brakes and fuel.

I Guess a Ferrari garage is so used to putting crackle finish on anything in the engine bay, they just did your intake runners that way out of habbit. I like!

Thanks for the nice words.

Regarding the fan, we'd like to keep it.

Over the easter I had a few hours free, so did most of the hard brake lines - just need to do one more in the enginebay, and we are ready to drop in the engine.
And the engine has also been prepared - to 2 snapped bolts at the rear of the head has been removed - took almost 3 hours of heating (Induction heater used to get them glowing red) and welding a nut on them.
Those bastard was really really stuck in the head!
Eventually they gave up, and all the threads was freshened up (Just as a precaution and to remove any leftovers of old crap in there).
Next up is an order to BMW-Classic for a new flange for the head.
-Might aswell just renew while we have it apart.

Hopefully i have a few pictures of it in the next couple of days.

Small teaser .....
