csi acceleration?, etc

I am buying a csi and drove the car on Saturday. Not sure it had the acceleration I expected. Does a csi feel "quick" (I know it is relative - and my comparison probably shouldn't be my e39 540ia?) Also thought it had somewhat of a gasoline smell (not terribly strong) in the cockpit. Any thoughts on this.

Stock 0-60 was in the 7-8 second range, if I recall right. The E39 540iA, on the other hand, does the same in the low 6es when in sport mode. So, no, it won't feel that quick. Plus the toque curve of the M62 versus the curve of the M30 makes the M30 feel much slower. The constant torque of the M30 feels far less dramatic than the neck-snapping power of the M62, which varies significantly more over the same RPM range.
