My '73 CSi, which I purchased July 19th 2011, was delivered to Italy July 14th of 1972 yet it does not have Italian white & orange turn signals and does not have a rear fog light.

Would these have been changed for Federalization when the car was imported in the mid 1980s?

Are the 'Italian' turn signal lenses a simple lens swap?

My '74 CS, built in 1972! and also delivered to Italy according to Mobile Tradition, has the rear fog light and solid orange turnsignal lens. Federalization was uneven at best. I still have the euro glass and no front reflectors.

I swapped the larger, fatter orange lenses for the more svelte euro solid orange lenses.
There is a noticable size difference but only noticable when it is pointed out by someone in the know. If you do make some kind of swap, you will have to cut the reflector inside the lens to make the thinner lens fit. No big deal.

After 50 years of looking at solid orange I have a problem with the clear or the half clear half orange. They don't seem right even though they are "correct."

How about some full photos of your new love?

Federalization

My '74 3.0 csi (built 11/73) was originally delivered to a dealer in Milan Italy according to BMW. When my car was federalized, they welded these thick (and Heavy) metal bars behind the front bumper. They also installed similiar metal bars inside each of the doors. I have since removed the bars from the doors, but still need to un-do the bars behind the front bumper. My car still has the rear fog light and the Euro city-lights in front. My car also had the front reflectors and rear running lights added. You're lucky that your car doesn't have those. Any metal bars welded behind your front bumper?
