Looking for a set of seats for a CSL in lieu of the missing scheels. Have found these 'scheel comfort seats' on ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E9-CSL-Comfort-Seat/272887149602?hash=item3f89577422:g:~6QAAOSwlndZB7KJ)

are these a 'thing' - were they ever originally fitted? or are they likely to have been made up later from normal CS frames with scheel fabric and vinyl? I can find no reference to them anywhere. I actually really like the look of them as a compromise and would allow me to keep the scheel type rears and some semblance of originality.

I'm in full agreement with your chain of thought. They are redone in Scheel cloth/ vinyl somewhere down the road.
That they are a great substitute for your missing Scheels and will match well to your rear seats. None the less you should pursue Scheels are they are a distinct feature of a CSL.
Cheers

i would expect much more for a 2k gbp pair of seats
yeah - the description of them being in "A1 condition" seems a bit far fetched too... I have access to a set of rough cloth CSA seats - was toying with the idea of doing the same kind of thing, I quite like the look and it would tie in with the scheel fabric rears. The other alternatives are repro seats as suggested by teahead or a straight good quality black leather CS type interior, which while 'wrong' - looks awesome.

I’m not a fan of the look. I love scheels and I love the factory e9 seats. These are lost in translation. Scheel 400’s are equally polarizing but they are a real scheel seat that would fit the bill.

You can buy new scheel 400’s for $1,500 each.

but the best of two worlds...

nothing compares to a scheel 100
thats great - but I dont have a pair of scheel 100's and I dont hold out a great deal of hope of finding a pair. I am not a fan of not quite right repros (although I may go that way). I like the original e9 leather with the vertical panels. my thoughts on the 'hybrid' style e9 seat with the scheel fabric were that it would allow me to correctly re trim the rears and have a usable presentable car, and then wait... if a set of scheel 100's came up I would pay through the nose for them but if they didnt, I would have something to sit on. The alternative is to completely retrim front and rear in standard e9 leather (I have access to another interior) - I would be quite happy with this but it would be 'wrong' and I guess would impact the saleability of the car in the future somewhat despite costing a lot of money to do properly. Dunno. Just mulling options at the moment and canvassing opinion. It is a genuine CSL and will be restored to a pretty good standard but I dont want to sit and look at it for years waiting for some scheels to turn up and I am not keen on the other aftermarket seats unless they look exactly like the scheels..

I'll vote for the Hockenheim seats linked above if fabric is ok match. They look like a good tribute to original. And I suspect would be sellable down road if you find the originals. The idea of changing whole interior seems least good. Redone CS seats seem OK, but aren't good tribute or necessarily resellable. Modern Scheels are "restoromod" and seems not your direction.

The one thing that I’ve learned over the last two years if that you keep your eye on the parts market, the stuff you are after will eventually show up. I have compromised due to impatience on a number of things only to find what I was really after later. Body and paint shops take a long time and you will be dreaming about a finished car. Factor some interior figure into your budget and use that time to hunt for
good options. As long as you pay a fair price for the seats that you pick, you can always sell them for the same price later if something better comes along. :)

if you can't find a set of original scheels ... then i think you are better off with the hockenheim as an aftermarket scheel replacement ... than with a standard CS seat with scheel fabric. if you ever find a set of real scheels, you can sell the hockenheims to somebody building a csl replica.

Some food for thought on sport seats:
1) You may want to 'try a seat on' to see if you actually fit. A buddy had a nice Scheel interior in his E9 hot rod and I found the Scheel fit to be very snug down below....and I am slender.

2) A fixed back seats look cool but greatly impair access to rear seats. Having a folding passenger seat to access the rear seat/cargo area may prove useful. I had two fixed back seats in my car, then I got frustrated with limited access to putting 'stuff' in rear seat area for trips. I quickly replaced the passenger with a folding unit for rear access. The fixed passenger is now a fun office chair ready in waiting to replace the driver's seat when it get tuckered out. Functional spares can be a good thing. ;-)

I'd conisder a 'split front seating', fixed driver with folding passenger, period correct. It was done back in the day.

+1 for ClassicCarSeats has obtainable options that are in flavor.

Good luck with your build.

.

Correct Scheel seats as installed from factory in a CSL, do pivot forwards to allow rear seat access (at least mine do). They pivot fully forward if you have them without headrests. However with headrests they don't allow as good access as the headrest hits the roof, but still passable.

have seen sliders with no pivot hinge as well -30-

I'm perplexed. You would rather buy £1,999.99 well-used, completely incorrect CS seats than the Hockenheims that are new and at least LOOK more correct in a CSL?
no - probably not! but faced with a dilemma i tend to cast around an look at all options. i have negotiated a lower price with the seller due to the lack of seats, will push forward with the restoration and see where we get to. there is a chance the original seats will still be found - if not - good quality reproductions is most likely the way I will go
