My understanding is that the 2275xxx D-Jet CSLs have a 9.5 compression ratio. In my go-to-triple-Webers-thoughts, I would mildly port the head and put in a slightly more aggressive cam.

To that end, what heads work on the 9.5 pistons that are in my CSL?

Any head--the one you have--will work fine. I'd recommend a bigger cam such as a Shrick 284 or a similar Korman item as the trick for the triple side drafts.

The CSI / SI with D-Jet had the 9.5:1 compression as well. Thus any head from one of those would probably work well.

All info afaik. Your mileage may vary.

Any M30 head, if I want to use a different head than is on the car?

Yes and no. Any M30 head will fit physically, and any E9 head will fit without any other mods. But later M30 versions did have some changes. Differently shaped coolant ducts, with motoronic different distributor drive.

Basically you can fit any M30 head up to a 1992 730 head, but in some cases you´ll need to swap a few parts from your original head and in some cases (coolant ducts), you need to make sure you have the right cylinder head gasket.

There is a great writeup on the M30 head at firstfives.org that´ll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the M30 head and interchangeability.
