I got my car back late August September last year after a few years and a fair bit of cash with Jaymic. Having had the wettest summer imaginable and a new baby, I've not had much chance to drive the thing since let alone post some pics. But here's a select few photos:

Soon as we get some sun I'm out in it and taking a few more shots.

I was having a look back through all my old files and found this article from 1973. A review of the CSL on its UK launch. Quite interesting if you like that kind of thing. Quite dull if you don't!

Hi Rob, looks great and that's an awesome color combo - I love that deep red. Were you happy overall with Jaymic? I was thinking of having them do some routine maintenance and they are closer to me than Munich Legends.

Overall, yes I was really pleased. Only down side was I had to do a lot of chasing. I was originally meant to be getting the car back in April, then it was June, then eventually it was the end of August. I can't complain because it looks and drives brilliantly. It's still the only car I've had that continues to put a grin on my face every time I drive it.

Beautiful car Rob.
Well worth the effort by the sounds of it.
Picking up on Tyler's comments on Munich Legends, just had them do work on my car - labour is £62.50 ph excl VAT. May help others here wondering where to go.

Regards

Hi Rob, where abouts are you based? The car looks great. Does it have a sunroof? Have you owned it long? Despite the reg being M I trust you have it taxed as a hitoric?

Tyler - unless you've moved I can't imagine Jaymic being closer than ML either in time or distance??

Regards,

Rohan

Hi Rohan,
thanks, I'm really pleased with the finished thing. I'm in Cheltenham, and have owned the car since '99. Where are you?

She was starting to show her age and was in need of a fair bit of TLC. So off to Norfolk she went on the back of a low loader about 3 years ago.

Jaymic is as far east as you can get from mine before falling in to the sea. It was a 5 hour trek to go and pick it up, but the drive back was brilliant!!!

Yes, it has got a sunroof - I presume factory fitted, but I've never known for definite. And yes it's taxed as historic.

A few years ago it was used as a prop in an CSL article of Deals on Wheels on Channel 4 and was also featured in the first edition of Total BMW.

Regards
Rob

Rohan - I'm still in NW3. You are right, I got the two locations backwards.

We need a UK Coupe run one of these days!

Rob, Im in Rickmansworth which is north west of london on the m25. I think I remember seeing your car n the magazine that time.

Who runs Jaymic now as I heard it changed hands? Are they doing many coupes?

As for the sunroof there is debate about whether they had sunroofs but I have seen one which was supposed and looked to be original so who knows. You would imagine the roof would be too fragile though.

Tyler, yes we do need to get them together again. Once we get this salt washed away it will be good to arrange a venue!

Regards,

Rohan

Jaymic Twins

Hi Rob,

I saw your car on Deals On Wheels a months or so ago and it looked great on film and it does now.

My CSL was a Jaymic production in the late 80's and that work has lasted to date. Maybe they used my left over paint on your car ;)

Picking up on what others have said maybe we should try to organise a UK gathering or at least another Goodwood style event which last year got 7 E9 together.

Regards,

Paul

Paul, that looks fantastic. I think Verona red is a great colour. I found out when they stripped it back that the original colour was Polaris silver and I had a large quandary as to whether to get it sprayed back to silver. I think I made the right choice.

I'd be up for a gathering. Whenever anybody's up for a blast on that one dry summer weekend, let me know.

Rob

Hello Rob!

My compliments to you for a really beautiful car.

Despite the official statement from BMW (in the 70s), that there were no possibilities to order a CSL with sunroof, it is known today that at least 4-5 CSLs are equipped with sunroof. I think no one could verify if they were special orders or after-market operations.

Remember that BMW had big difficulties to sell all CSLs during the 70s and they were more or less in the hands of powerful customers and their wishes. So everything is possible.

Normally, there was power sunroof in the CSLs with city package and manual handling in the extremly rare "non-city pack" CSLs with sunroof.

As your car is one of the very few and rare CSLs with sunroof, may I ask you if the inner roof and the sun blinds in your car are black and if there is an interior light?

Cheers

Hi, thanks.
Yes the headlining and the sun blinds are black and there is an inner light above the drivers side door. The sunroof is electric rather than manual, so I've presumed in the past it was all part of the city pack.

RE: the airdam in the 73 CSL article

Like the two-tone and thanks for posting the CSL article.

I have a question for regarding the airdam in the article, does anyone here have that airdam installed their coupe??

I have that exact airdam, its aluminum, I purchased it from England awhile back, and I am trying to determine its proper location/position/color (black or body color/) on the front of the car. On the few Alpina cars I have seen it on (see gallery) it's in the body color, in the CSL article, it is black. Mine is black. Would it be personal preference?

I had it on for a while, but it got damaged/smacked from a high road crown/undulation and would like to avoid that from happening again. Especially since I JUST painted my coupe. Based on the CSL article shot, I think I had it a schosh too low. BTW: its a VERY alarming sound when your airdam gets smacked at speed!

Any insight/images on this particular airdam's ideal location would be greatly appreciated.

Coupes up!
