Take a look at this guys. Some 'expert' has stolen (and I use that word in the traditional sense) all of my images off this site to make a YouTube video of my CSL. I don't mind if people want to learn from my restoration, or even just drool but they could have at least referenced where the images were stolen from.

This is what happens when you are in quarantine...

I've emailed them. Let's see what falls out. I'm guessing not a lot..
Have you tried this?

Images are on a public forum but I guarantee with over 400k subscribers he's making money off of your work.

Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how much he would be making out of one video like that?
It's not very straightforward. A friend has 50k+ subscribers and she makes $500-1000 a month on video views across her channel, but she makes a LOT more with endorsements of products. She was offered $10k to plug one of the vaccines being safe for her toddler. She declined. She got $3000 to plug a vacuum cleaner, then she got another one exactly the same from a different sponsor and sold the vacuum for $2000. It adds up quickly but it is work. Funny thing is, YouTube isn't working for her nearly as well as TikTok so she doesn't spend much time on her YouTube stuff anymore. Her friend is well established on YouTube, they both got started with "Teen Mom" videos, and now her friend is making over $30k a month.

Well I got a response:

Hello Wes,

I apologise for making video from your forum thread about restoration of your '72 3.0 CSL. I did put your name in the beginning of the video and also in the video description and also link to your build thread and nowhere I was claiming that the pictures are made by us.

I can remove video if you don't want it to be featured on the channel!

Once again I apologise for making video without your permission! And if there is something else I can do for you just let me know!

I have asked that my images be attributed, along with the thread they were taken from. Let's see what happens.

Best wishes,

Asking for forgiveness while receiving income from your content. There is really no suitable recourse. Frankly, he should pay you for the intellectual property.

Always better to ask for permission than beg for forgiveness.... Saves a lot of time.

Did Dimitry miss Kindergarten?

Unfortunately this is the way of YouTube. Most videos are stolen from others and reposted. I've seen an original video posted that gets very minimal traffic, then someone with a bunch of followers reposts it and it goes viral.

Hi Wes,

I think it’s poor form he didn’t ask you, but I guess he assumed since images are online they are in the public domain. It happens all the time with people reposting stuff. It’s one of the great things about social media. Although he has pushed it to the extreme using your full name and even a pic of your daughter.

On the bright side, it’s a decent video and saves you having to make one yourself. Nice too to have lots of positive PR about your CSL if you ever want to sell. Such stuff adds value as part of a detailed history file imho.

If it was me, I would ask for a copy of the high res video file for my records. And ask him to edit my name out and remove the pic of your daughter.

Other than that I wouldn’t ask him to remove it entirely from YT. And it’s also helpful to other E9ers.

Some one did that with my Green coupe build , pics they stole from this forum , at least with yours they put it with tolerable music , whoever pirated my build used some ultra lame techno dribble ughhhhh
