Guys,

anybody had any success having somebody make rear seat covers with the Scheel Mann (CSL) fabric and the larger horizontal panels? I was going to get Gerrit to make them but he has informed me that he no longer will provide this service.

appreciate any thoughts?

i cannot comment on something i do not know ... only that this is the response i received - "I don´t offer the covers ready to mount anymore. You can however still get the materials from me."

Materials...

You've won half the battle...get the materials to a compentant upholsterer and....voila! New seats....

I know Paul's upolstary here on Roosevelt (Seattle) does(did) 'tres chic' work....when I visited w/ my coupe he was working on a gullwing....he had those knarley hands...from years of experience....

His daughter might have taken charge by now, but Paul was very good at what he did and I am sure Gerrit will be missed too.

Agreed, that's why I asked. The pattern should be easy enough to duplicate. Good news that he's still selling the materials.

you guys are forgetting one minor insignificant thing. the rear CSL seats are a total different pattern and size of horizontal bands than the standard CS seat - either pre 74 or post 74 ... and if you don't have that pattern ... what are you really having somebody match?

a little background - i have the large bolstered front scheel mann seats - NOT the CSL seat ... but the fabric and pattern are the same. you can still buy the CSL fabric from W+N as well.

i guess i am halfway tempted to take the fabric off of the scheel seats and cover everything in black leather. I can probably call in a favor and buy the leather cheaper than buying and shipping the fabric from germany. the other option would just be to cover the rear seats in black leather in a horizontal pattern.

I would think a good upholstery shop could work from some good photos and measurements provided my someone who had a real one laying around combined with stock rear seats and the basis?

probably ... but you have to find the shop ... and in a city like Atlanta, there aren't many people with coupe experience. so you are flying blind. might be more worthwhile to send the rear seats to somebody who has done CSL seats in another city.

its just disappointing that Gerrit stopped making them as having a ready made kit would allow a person with reasonable skills to do it themselves as the rear seats aren't that complicated to install once you have the material made up.

Agreed, the rears are easy(r) to do... if you ever need some good measurements I will provide them for you.

What would be ideal if Gerrit can pass along the seat pattern info...maybe not for free, but a small price to pay for his experience...

Either way, you would have to work out many small details while adding a middle man...

guys, I am in conversation with Gerrit, he has offered to cut the fabric and mark the panel joints. I have asked if he would also cut the vinyl for the sides. (of course i would be willing to pay for that).

I will document the patterns since he is getting out of this part of the business. the front seats are a totally different scenario.

rsporsche: did you ever get some patterns from Gerrit or did some yourself?

i got the fabric from Gerrit for the inserts, but had an upholsterer rebuild the rear CS seats and produce CSL seats.
