Thanks! Anyone have a reasonably priced spare for sale? Also, I would like to acquire a set of 5 Michelin XWX 195-70-VR-14 tires for show. Anyone know a good source? Coker Tires is not an option at $418 per tire. Thanks!
Have heard there is/was a source in Jolly Old per one of our European board members--but with shipping and our soft $ there may not be much if any savings over Coker.
You must be entered in a serious Concours with a unique judge who would know the original tire--on a CSL
The XAS was the first original equipment radial tire that came on most US Coupes--and then the improved "V" rated XVS showed up as original equipment on the US model CS's--likely there were no CSL's in this country until about 1974 or 75 and then they were as rare as a Bugatti Veyron at a Tijuana hot rod show
I suspect that a privately imported CSL came before the XWX became available here in the USA--perhaps was shod with XWX's--I do remember buying a set for my Coupe shortly afer they arrrived around 1976 I believe--softer tread compound for improved traction--but an awful tire to keep in balance--tried a second set with same poor results--returned to XVS as it was an all round better tire for the Coupe and no balancing problems plus much better wear.
Hi,
I´m the European board member who has recently bought Michelin XWX from www.longstonetyres.co.uk
I have 205/70 VR15 on 2 Couoes with original wheels and it looks very period and very cool. Just like the Ferraris of the 60s. The handling in wet and dry is sensational. Haven´t done enough to comment on wear and rebalancing. The overall dimensions are the same as the 195s from the 70s. Don´t know why but it just is. Michelin makes 2 production batches a year so mine were very fresh when I got them. Talk to Craig Barrowcliffe or Simon Cox. I have them on my Iso Grifo as well in 215/70 VR15.
