Whelp - here is where I am at. I have just been and done my final inspection of the bits as good as I could. As posted before, the shell is reasonably sound - not perfect but pretty bloody good. The alloy panels are mint. The engine is correct and the gearbox has been found. The front Scheel seats are missing.
Today I was faced with a mountain of fish bins and piles of bits. many bags of vaguely labeled fasteners..
Here are a few snapshots of the bits AFTER the owner found them all and brought them together in the only bit of space he had... It is not great. He assures me it is all there. It looks like he is telling the truth. The condition varies...
On the upside the petri wheel is there (although in bad shape). There are 2 brand new pairs of rear light clusters (one UK, one US). The dash and wood dont look too bad (although the dash has had some woodworm in it!) There are multiples of many things from another CS he broke a while back. The deal also comes with a 3.0 CSA donor with more holes than metal but the brightwork and glass are very good. There will be other bit. The chrome exhaust headers are obviously wrong - that is the only bit of exhaust I would be getting! Much of the rubber looks pretty good but in general all parts are in the kind of condition you might expect from a car that was stripped because it needed restoring and then stored (often not very well) for many years.
the shell and alloy panels are in really very good condition all things considered. The motor is the motor, it is there, largely complete and the correct CSL number
for this pile of lovely scrap the owner wants the equivalent of $US19k
Bear in mind. For reasons to do with my relationship with the seller - I am not going to buy and resell or break. My intention is to have the vehicle refurbished and reassembled by a professional with me sourcing as much as I can myself. I know the cost of doing it will be orders of magnitude more than the purchase price.
I am not writing this for advice so much as to talk myself through what I have ahead!
Monday I decide
Oh, and there are no front seats!
