We are in the final furlong of the restoration. I had previously damaged one of the SS wheel arches (shown here with its smaller and thicker replacement)

and the metal fabricator tried to fix it but as it is SS there were still minor ripples after the repair which would let down the rest of the restoration. At the advice of the new shop I therefore, ordered a new one from Albrecht at Wallochs.

The new one arrived and per below it is slighter shorter and even more proud. Looking under the arches they have a sticker on them with no mention of BMW and the model BMW 3.0 CSI (Not CSL). As CSIs do not appear to have them this is somewhat confusing to me. I spoke to Albrecht and he helpfully advised that his are originals sourced from BMW (they do appear to fit the same arch) and there have been various reproductions (usually smaller) created over the years but he is missing the left front one if anyone knows where to find a BMW original.

As the CSL has matching numbers and largely original parts but had been very poorly repaired on numerous occasions I can envisage a scenario where an owner/garage bought some more accessible reproductions at some point in its life that fooled me and the UK assessor who inspected the car for first Australian buyer.
If anyone has any experience with this style of wheel arch please let me know. They may also be available soon!

David

Thanks - at least these have a BMW logo and part number on them (although easy to replicate) and they do look wider (more proud) than mine - like the new ones from Walloch so that is an encouraging sign. It is hard to tell exactly, but neither look in tip top condition so I will hang out for a new replacement - however, thank you for confirming that I did indeed have the wrong size trims on my car.

Very best.

My pleasure David,
Not that it matters, but that parts sickers are genuine. I had some duplicated, exactly the same kind but for the wind splits and it took some doing to get them right.

Keep an eye on eBay.de and best of luck in your search.

Keshav is correct about the stickers. Those are an important detail when looking for genuine parts-- nearly impossible to duplicate.

I have some used arches, repro and genuine, most have some damage, will take a look, the genuine ones can usually be repaired and repolished but the repro are a bit thin, there are crap repro late bonnet badges on ebay with fake stickers, they look perfect, the stickers not the badges, they look great until you wash the car, the ink comes off! Sound advice - thanks guys

For now I will settle for Albrecht's which he says come from BMW and need no work at a reasonable price (I will inspect the inside and send a pic so we can see how they are shipped from BMW now).

Best,

David
