I almost bought this 1970 2800cs in 1987. It was polaris/blue and was an automatic. Does anyone know if it's still on the road. Sorry, I don't have the VIN. My Dad took it in on trade at his dealership so I got to "borrow" it for a week. I took a few photos of the car, but decided against buying it as I was young and it "needed some work".

I'm curious if it's owned by someone on the board.

With a coveted blue BMW plate that the DMV gave to new BMW owners when the blue plates came out in `69/70. Some say it was the dealers who had them, some say it was the CCA, but I met an original `70 2002 owner who got his straight from the DMV. Nice.

Whoa! I've got one of those plates, it came with my '69.

306 BMW, blue california plate, pretty beat but still in decent condition. It'd be cooler if it was "286-BMW", you know, 2.8-6 cylinder.

What else can you tell me about these plates? Neat history, thanks for sharing.

You can have them renovated. I had mine done at a place in Oregon since the previous owner had it panited black. Now it is in its original condition.

license plate renovation

do you have that Oregon license plate renovation information? I have a slightly beaten up blue plate I'd like to make look prettier before I trick our DMV into letting me put it on my car (thanks HBChris).

thanks
Matt

Getting an old plate on the car is a nice touch if possible. Here in Louisiana (and some other states - check the DMV laws) if you have a plate from the year of the car's manufacture it can be legally registered.
