Does anyone know if it is possible to swap the cv avle shaft end to end in order to lenghten service life by putting wear in a different location.

Mesa Performance charges $100 per side to rebuild which is dirt cheap. Both ends experience the same up and down movement.

Yes, it is, but I wonder if shifting the wear patterns will really extend the service life.

service life of CV joints

BLUMAX has recently had the CV joints serviced--boots were replaced and re-packed with grease--at over 416,000 miles--the joints were in good condition and pronounced good for another "few" miles. So if logic matters:

It would seem that by observing the minimal normal maintenance of these very robust parts, shifting the axle shaft ends may serve no real purpose in extending their useful life. If there has been serious neglect--i,e., allowing ripped boots to throw out all the grease without service then what you propose could prove beneficial.
 
I have heard of switching CV joints to the opposite side of the car to get them to quite up a bit on front wheel drive cars. The idea is that the CV joints load up in the opposite direction or the way they were under a load only when the car was in reverse before the swapping. I did try it once on the front axles on my much beloved VW Quantum Syncro Wagon (VW’s 4 wheel drive answer to the Quattro 4000) with good results but I also repacked the CV joints at the same time so who knows :confused: what really helped on that one. ~ John Buchtenkirch
