My car is generally running fine but through the gears at around 2750 - 3000 rpm it's hesitant. Above 3000 rpm the power returns fine

Any simple pointers on where to look to solve ?

I had a similar problem, turned out to be the coil. Replaced it and now it's smooth throughout the band.

Good luck

SfDon - i don't have a way to measure this myself. I'll need to get my mechanic to check.

I was wondering if this was an obvious symptom given the range of rpm that it's happening within.

Americium - thanks for the tip, although i replaced my coil just 12 months ago. I'll get it checked out just in case

O2 sensor, smog shop, dyno shop all can do the deed.

Is the RPM the data point or is it possibly the throttle position? I had this same problem but it turned out to be a flat spot (worn spot) on the throttle position sensor. Righ where you would have the throttle when you're cruising on the freeway.

New TPS and all's well. Cost for a used one was $400, the guy that did th work said a rebuilt one is about $600.

Find the vintage VW/Porsche guy in your area, they had a lot more D-Jets than did BMW and generally are way more familiar with the system
