Well, had my '74 with D-Jet out today, noticed some hesitation, drove OK for 1/2 hour. Stopped for lunch, re-started and got bad hesitation/bucking above 1000 rpm, couldn't get above 10 mph, couldn't drive further. I also have a Crane electronic ignition, problem could be there I suppose. Wondering if there are things I should look at within the D-jet system. I will check all the connectors, look at the pulse generator points (understand you can't do much with them except replace them), fuel pressure, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

Could be your distributor has worn out after 44 years & the curve is out of whack & not advancing properly.

My D-Jet Csi had A Crane ignition when I purchased it. I removed that & put in a Pertronix, & the car would run for 30 minutes then stall & not restart easily. Then threw out the Pertronix & went to points & condenser. Which cured the stalling issue. In 2016 installed a 123 Distributor. Then the car wouldn't idle. The root cause was a failed Manifold Atmospheric Pressure Sensor (MAP) which sits on the brake booster bracket & is color coded to the ECU. We had that rebuilt & combined with this 123 D-Jet Distributor: https://123ignitionusa.com/123-bmw-...-6-cyl-bmw-engines-with-d-jetronic-injection/ solved the hesitation, stalling & hard restarts. Th car has run flawlessly since 2016 & has been driven cross country twice.
