A recent problem was the failure of the aux.air valve or air slide on my car. I have attached some photos as well as some links. Trouble for me is that I replaced this valve, when I still drove the car as a daily beater....pulled a part from my stash, misplaced the other. I thought it was a Volvo bit....but no... M.B. OK....so I am a hoarder! Curious as to responses and just what the original part may be.... I do remember some comments of forum members who have examined my engine bay and commented on my valve as to being "not specific" The links address the repair of the valve....Behr part seems to be hard to find in North America.... Sure, I have cooked them, monitored, IR thermometer at the handy. Wax capsule and brain dead. Squeeze the bulb to decrease volume, increase travel, etc.

What I need to ask....

Because my car is a morphodite, 1974 CS with a D-jet transplant. What is the proper part number for the air slide, what was stock for a Csi?

Bosch partnumber 0 280 140 018

I checked the aux air valve bosch part number on one of my "old parts" : 0 280 140 018

If you go to: http://www.automotive-tradition.de/en and register, you will get access to the data. You can find a lot there such as info regarding the application of all bosch components on a specific car. Good luck.

BTW in german this part is called: Zusatzluftschieber

Air slide

Thanks for the info. I suspected that the 018 was the original valve. I have a 013 that apparently fit the 280e Mercedes. I found and bought another on the Ebay, Argentina, NIB
Installed on the car. I can still feel a slight amount of vacuum on the hose to the air cleaner after warm up....not enough to effect RPM, hose on or off, yet the valve still passes a minor amount that one can feel with a finger on the end of the hose. Does yours seal completely?
The automotive-tradition.de site is particular to Windows users. I use a Mac for all my internet for obvious reasons. I do have Windows on one side of my laptop for work purposes that I try to keep "virgin"....no internet as to avoid viruses, etc. I took a cruise of that site and was very impressed. As usual, the Europeans have superior resources. I also contacted the Behr representative in Germany via e-mail. He was very prompt in a refferal to the USA contacts.
Typical USA....to an operator....to a voice mail....no return call or e-mail. I am an engineer....love to fix what I have if possible even if I end up spending more in the long run. This is how we learn! In for a dollar....let me see if I can lay hands on the 018 valve. Curious as to the line air filter shown in the blue book. This seems redundant.

ok, i am quite sure it does close completely, will check tomorrow for you.

The 2 links to german websites have some good info. It says that it should close between 60 and 70 degr. C. and open again slightly when the engine is around 100C. This specificly for the E9.

After further reading, it seems that replacement of the behr part would most likely be the solution. the guys talk about spending €40 for that part. http://www.behrthermottronik.de/index.php?article_id=24&clang=1 checking here you might be able to tell where to source the part.

If you have more specific questions but are a bit lacking in german, let me know and i can see what else i can find out for you.
