Does anyone have a photograph or information on the factory speaker in the dash? It's missing on my car and would like to find an original or as close as I can get. Also, what size is it?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Stevehose. The speaker looks to be the wrong proportions. The hole (and grille) in my dash don't look to me to be modified. How strange, any ideas?

The eBay speaker looks like a W113 Mercedes speaker. Don't bother buying an original speaker, they worked with radios that only put out 4 watts. A more modern speaker will fit there, Steve's 4x6 recommendation looks promising. A new 'flat plate' 4x6 has multiple mounting holes for almost every possible scenario.

Original speaker

This is the original Blaupunkt speaker out of a 1969 2800CS (Euro)

I replaced my original Blaupunkt with an identical speaker from a VW Jetta.

My grille had remants of speaker cloth before I refinished the dash. Maybe brown but probably badly faded. Anyone know what color originally?

Wouldn't this pretty much obscure any speaker?

Other choices for speaker- center channel or tweeters on angle brackets.

Grill cloth is brown:

replacement grill cloth

Is there a source for replacement grill cloth (mine is deteriorated)? Can the wooden speaker grill surround be removed without removing the dash (e.g. carefully pried off or ?)?

Cutout dash

This is the cutout in my dash of the 2800CS. In this cutout the original speaker fits perfectly, so the speaker is flush with the board. By this the grill fits properly in the dash.

The speaker is pressed in kind of like the door panels and unless a PO has glued it, it should come out. Try a credit card or plastic putty knife and see if you can ease it out a little at a time from each side - very gently!
