My cracked vinyl dashboard is out of the car. Can the cracks be successfully repaired or does the entire dash need to be re-vinyled? If the entire dash needs to be re-vinyled, who does this type of repair? thanks.

No, the cracks can't just be filled in.

I took my dash pieces to a competent auto upholstery shop (Universal Auto & Marine Upholstery of Costa Mesa, recommended to me by Blumax). Universal re-covered them using a stretchy vinyl that is not backed with fabric.

This is not to say that any upholsterer could do this level of work - it took Universal some time (and it cost me some money) to get the job done. But, the result looks great.

I had my dash redone by JUST DASHES and am very happy with the work. Not cheap and they had it for 2 months but worth it in the end.The materials on the original dashes are old and brittle and if you end up having to install and re-install several times you run the risk of the original dash cracking(found this out the hard way on a dash in a Datsun which are similarly constructed). It does seem their prices keep going up so the sooner you have it done the more $ you save.
