ahum, not sure how to avoid the dirty minds here...
Keeping focused on E9's: I've opened up some cracks in the paint in the area surrounding the rear tail lights. When doing so, I noticed that the joint where the side (quarter) panel meets the rear (license plate) panel is different if I compare left to right on my car. Above the floor , my left side has a butt seam (see attached picture), my right side has a strip welded over the seam. I am thinking that neither are OEM.
Under the trunk floor both left and right quarterpanels are spotwelded to the taillight panel with a double flange. That does seem like a logical OEM construction.
The other images show why i'm seriously considering to replace the whole rear panel + rear left valances.
Can anyone share a pic of the OEM seam from inside the trunk?
Can anyone share a pic of the OEM seam from the underside of the spare wheel well & tank side?
