Can anyone tell me the difference between these two headlight switches?

uhm, ehrr, one has a black / brown rotary dial + the other has white. sorry, couldn't miss the opportunity ... but they look the same other than the numbers on the back side.

Since the terminal numbers are the same, that suggests the functions are the same. You could use a Ohm meter to check that the variable resistor range is the same for each. My guess is that the color difference is due to different materials. The white could be ceramic and the brown is some sort of synthetic material. Possibly plastic or epoxy & fiber like like early circuit boards used. That suggests that the white one is older as the brown material was probably less expensive.

Yes, the white mounting frame for the spiral resistor is the early ceramic type, the brown one is the later Bakelite type.20260222_210227.jpg
The function should be the same. By turning the knob the brightness of the dashboard/instrument light is controlled (but that´s another story)

Both are correct for e9 from '70 to '76? Also correct for e10?
