In response to another post,Tilla posted a page from the E9 owner's manual:

I suppose one might accuse me of being mired in trivia, but I could not help but notice that the dwell angle is slightly different between the carburettor and fuel injection models (35-41 degrees vs. 39-45 degrees). Since both models are 6 cylinders and presumably employing the same ignition systems*, why the different degree angles?

Thank you in advance.

*I am aware there is a separate set of points to trigger the DJetronic, but not aware that these have anything to do with the coil or the spark delivered to the plugs.

I'd guess (and I stress GUESS) it relates to the carb cars having a more gasoline-rich mix, meaning the mixture should ignite easier. A little more dwell will result in a little more time for the field in the coil to collapse before it starts to recharge, delivering a little more energy to the spark plug so the leaner FI mixture will light off reliably.
