hi all. my diff started hissing last week. i'm in the socal area and am looking for a bmw diff rebuilder in this area if possible. can someone recommend one in california or somewhere in the mainland? thanks. had to try one alternative and that was draining it and replacing with fresh oil (in this case, i used the lucas synthetic 75w90 with an additive of ac/delco origin which are added by most garages when replacing fluid or after a rebuild). it still hissed after the draining.
open to ideas of a used one but i'm dealing with a 40 year unit and don't really want to go down the road again. also, how do i locate the ratios on the unit. mine was an auto box diff with lsd. it is currently with a 5 spd but i like the get up and go with the higher ratio.
thanks for any ideas you can pass this way.

Call these guys, they did a manual steering box for a member here. They do boosters, pumps, gear boxes, axles, etc.

I had mine rebuilt at a place that does tractor/trailer transmissions and diffs. $250 labor and I supplied the bearings and seals

According to Pete, Don keeps drowning him in side loaders. :) All I know is that I wouldn't have been able to tell you which one on the shelf was mine - glad Pete knows.
