Has anyone replaced them? I assume they're still available. Years ago I had a Triumph Bonneville that I'd restored. It ran well but it would never come back to a consistent idle unless you blipped the throttle. Turns out the advance springs for the points were stretched out from years of use and no longer kept the proper amount of tension on the flyweights.

I think the distributor in my CSL is advancing too far too rapidly and I think one of the reasons might be the advance springs.

I haven't checked the dealer yet but I am guessing they're available and they certainly should be inexpensive.

These would likely be found at any shop or supply house dealing with beetles. Bosch distributors found in Volvo, saab, mercedes etc., all used similar springs. Needless to say, each spring had different ratings which could be determined by color, shape and packaging. The desired effect would be determined by using a distributor machine or your timing light.
