Anyone know the diameter of the hole the distributor goes into? My motor has an '80-81 e12 head 535i and a Bosch Mechanical distributor. It's looks like any of the following fit so I'm guessing the diameter is pretty much universal - hopefully through the m30 series.

Part 12111360669 (Distributor) was found on the following vehicles:

Bosch distributors for the M30 all share the same base diameter. I've swapped so many pieces around over the past years, never found a difference. Only difference is in the upper body dependant on injection and vacuum ..

This only from practical experience, my disclaimer ;-)

If you cant find it in reference material...try the measure it route: remove distributor, take a micrometer, measure ID with the correct side of the mic, replace dist...I would do it but the car is garaged and covered for winter

There is a distributor plug from http://www.02again.com/index.php/cPath/38 that fits the m10 dizzy hole and I was hoping (1% chance) it is the same size as the m30. My hand is still in a cast and most tool related things require two hands so pulling it is out of my skill level until the cast is removed. It's been a long five weeks.

So if anyone has a dizzy they can measure....

I can't help you with the distributor diameter, but I am interested in hearing what injection set up you're planning to use such that you won't need a distributor, but will still work without the later Motronic front cover/cap/rotor. Megasquirt with Ford DIS, perhaps?

Hi Andy:

Using http://sdsefi.com/. Not comfortable with a total DIY megasquirt or hybrids that are out there given my skill level and one of the best of the commercial packages. They are also very close to home. Seems like a good way to spend a long winter.

Very nice! That system should work out well for you. Let us know how it goes. FWIW, I'm 99% sure that the '02 distributor plug will work for you. I don't have anything to measure, but if memory serves me correctly, the diameters are the same. I did confirm on RealOEM.com that the o-rings share the same part number, so that's a pretty good indication.

Thanks Andy - I'll keep you posted but if the O rings match then you're probably right on the diameter. I'm going to drop in to SDS for some info and parts today.
