Door lock PROBLEM

One of my doors refuse to close in the normal way. If I push it lightly, it just bounces back.
The harder I push, the worse it gets.
The only way of shutting the door properly is to push it firmly from about 2" (from the shut position). Then I need to push down the locking pin. If I don´t, the door will open on passing the smallest bump in the road.

Before I take the door apart and change the opening/lockin mechanism, I just wonder if I should try something else??

I have played around with the latch, placing it in various positions. Just can´t get it done properly.

I read somewhere , that there is a rubber boot piece that is supposed to be
connected to the door latch...
maybe someone can chime in about that

Do you mean the grey plastic "cap" that goes upside down on one of the "arms" on the doorlock...?
All my cars have them. Not as easy as that!

Yes, i was talking about the plastic caps.
Do you know the part # of it, btw?

Maybe the door latch mechanism needs cleaning
I couldn't think of much else, sorry

Latch adjustment

Move the striker (body) plate outwards slightly ( and perhaps down just a bit.) after marking it's current position with a pencil for reference. Sounds like you get to the first position and it bounces before turning to latch.

Move the door latch manually to the first position and see if your high or low. ( Might try a piece of masking tape on the roller/stud since it will be marked by the movement rather than eyeing it.)

Door bounces back or easily trips open

This might help your problem--had similar situation recently with latching mechanism on my 2002--their outer mechanisms are same as on Coupe:

with the door open--lift and hold your inner door handle to the unlatch/opening position--with the other hand check rotation of the door latching mechanism--if stiff or too resistant to smooth operation it's in need of lubing--apply some rust breaker or fine lube at the point of rotation and turn until it easily and smoothly rotates--when inner door handle is held in the open position the latching mechanism should now rotate easily and will markedly improve the expected operation of your door closeure. HTH

Do this as part of your periodic maintenance.

Thanks,
the door lock mechanism has been out and thoroughly cleaned of old grease, a year or two ago. All parts are oiled and greased properly. Everything moves nicely.

I believe the culprit is in the stiker plate? with its pin and wedge. The part on the B-post.
I know I have had ideas of removing the loose plate that sits inside/behind the rear side panels. The one with 3 nuts welded to it. I seem to have concluded that it cannot move far enough in one direction. Thus removing the plate and using a round file to increase the ways in which it can be mounted, might solve the problem.
